If i buy BD 140 only- is it same with BD 140 -16 or BD 140- 10?

    The pnp bipolar transistor BD140 will be supplied in three groups of the parameter hfe (see datasheet, page 4):

    • BD140: 40...250
    • BD140-10: 63...160
    • BD140-16: 100...250

    Of course, it always depends on the circuit, but most of the time you can replace a BD140 with a BD140-10 or BD140-16, but not necessarily vice versa.

    If you want to be sure that the circuit works safely with the BD140 instead of the BD140-10 or BD140-16, you have to measure the value of hfe of the BD140 and make sure that you are in the appropriate group with it.
