Reprogramming EVAL-SP1ML868 failure

I am trying to reprogram EVAL-SP1ML868. I have read UM1889 and have the necessary software installed. I have fitted a shorting link to JP1. The 'Flash Loader Demonstrator' first screen 'Select communication port settings' I have set to the correct COM port (COM8 in this instance) and baud rate 115200. UM1889 does not tell me what to set Parity or Echo options to. I have tried every combination and only get error messages like 'No response from target...' or 'Unrecognized device...'.  What am I doing wrong?

The current firmware version is 1.03
