Help with battery detection on STEVAL-ISB033V1

I'm trying to get the battery detection feature to work on this board. The spec sheets and user manuals are somewhat lacking on this information. I've played around with the board a bit, but to no avail. Here's the connections that the user manual tells me to make. I'm not really sure what to make of the blue rectangle. I thought it might be telling me to connect a 10kohm resistor between the RID pin and the negative battery terminal. With or without this resistor, the battery detection register tells me there is no battery connected even when it is. I would really appreciate any help with this!
