Question

Preferred motor control method

Hi everyone,

I have a hobbyist drone motor with the following phase voltage plot. Can anyone recommend the preferred method of controlling this motor? Is (sensored) trapezoidal or sinusoidal control sufficient? Or do we have to use FOC control?

Thank you very much!

Hello KZhan.6,

for your drone motor control application, you don't need sensors because sensor-less solutions works well at high speed. You can use both FOC or 6step algorithm.

You can find some examples in the MC SDK and try different configurations.

Using drone motor doesn't necessarily mean drone like operation when synchronous speed control is a key. If load is changing fast, often, within a wide range with existence of stall option(i.e. low and very low speed) I'm not sure that sensorless will always suitable.
