Hi,I was wondering if someone can help me with temperature update on the VL53L4CX.According to UM2931  that describes the temperature update in paragraph 3.5 there is a dedicated function named VL53L4CD_Start_Temperature_Update() and can be used when the ambient temperature have changed by more than 8 degrees Celsius. This guide unfortunately is for the VL53L4CD but I just wanted to know does the same apply to the VL53L4CX? Does the CX has the same functionality to improve ranging accuracy?Thanks, 

Hello @John E KVAM ,Table 14 in the datasheet shows power consumption in Autonomous as going as low as 4.5 mW, but is this only the AVDD power? or total device power? Because I do measure low power draw at those levels, but only on the AVDD pin (and those power levels vary with sample rate, per the datasheet). But the IOVDD continues to draw 22 mA at 3.3v in addition to a few mA for the VCSEL on AVDD. I'm pretty sure the device is really in Autonomous because calling vl53l5cx_get_ranging_mode() returns a '3' for Autonomous. But I'm unable to turn off that big power suck on the IOVDD pin. I was hoping this part could be a low-power motion detector, but if I'm stuck with ~100 mW or more then it's not very low power.One issue might be that I'm using threshold detection. Is that what keeps the core digital stuff drawing power? Can I run a low-power Autonomous mode if I don't set thresholds?Another possib

Hi,I have a project for which I need to measure a tank level of tanks with a maximum depth of 3 meters. The challenging part is that many tanks have filling tubes with an inner diameter of 50mm but a length of 1000mm worst case. I have made this drawing:The maximum field of view is thus 2.86 degrees in the worst case scenario. I have ordered a VL53L8 development kit and tested it out thinking that the matrix could solve this issue for us. I tested this, but it is a no-go as all measurements drop as soon as I place a tube on top of the sensor. I found it really difficult to select a correct sensor and I probably need a sensor with a narrower lens. Hi community, I would like to understand if the VL53L5CX is a good choice to develop an application to detect holes and stairs. I decided to study them since I was impressed by these things:The FoV of 45 ° horizontally or vertically;The granularity of the zoning:16 zones (in the case of 4x4 mapping)64 zones (in the case of 8x8 mappatira);The refresh rate is also interesting. Up to 15 Hz in the case of 64 zones and up to 60 Hz in the case of 16.Among the other features that impressed me is the sharpner. Thanks to this feature I could sharpen the division of the zones. Hi everyone, can you provide information on the highest temperature and ambient pressure the VL53L0X Time of Flight (ToF) ranging sensor can handle without being damaged? Note: this is not during operation of the sensor (operating temperature is given as -20 °C to 70 °C in the datasheet) but during the integration process into a larger system. Thanks in advance and kind regardsPhilip

I want to use the VL53L8CH in histogram mode to distinguish between multiple reflective surfaces. I found a c-driver package in STSW-IMG043, but no useful example how to initialize the sensor and get data out (over I2C).What I'am looking for:1) initialize sensor and start ranging, with some example code to setup the histogram configuration2) get histogram data over I2CIn the mentioned driver software there are a lot of functions, some of them are clear what they do, other are not clear, but I did not found an application in a software layer avbove which bundles these driver functions to a senseful initialization- or read method.

Hello,Even in the SparkFun product introduction video (2.45-3.00 min),  the representative presentation shows there is some bouncing in the sensor reading. I have also experienced the same bouncing issue. How can we deal with this problem? Regards,Fehmi K.

Hello STM Community team:I'm working  with a vl53l3cx sensor on a custom board with zephyr rtos but i am not able to get a reading.To use the sensor I just modified the zephyr driver for the vl53l1x, on the .c file inside the driver I made the following changes:1) added a VL53LX_MultiRangingData_t member in "struct vl53l3cx_data".2) in function "_read_sensor" changed the "GetRangingMeasurementData" for GetMultiRangingData, using the new MultiRangingData_t member as argument.3) in function "_channel_get", changed to get NumberOfObjectsFound instead of RangeMilliMeter.4) Replace the VL53L1X API functions for the VL53L3CX API functions, as indicated on the UM2778. the result is that the number of object found is always 0, this is independent of the distance mode . What I am doing wrong? Any suggestion to get the sensor made a reading.Let me know if I can clarify anything, and thanks in advance for any help.

Several questions:1. Dimensions of smallest object that can be detected.2. Maximum Sampling rate (60Hz). Can sampling time be adjusted for multiple sensor array.3. Plan to use multiple sensors. What pattern should I use to place the sensors?4. Can interrupt be generated when object is first detected?5. Any other advice would be appreciated, such as best part to use.

HI,I am using ULD API function VL53L1X_CalibrateOffset() and VL53L1X_CalibrateXtalk() to calibrate the sensor and then I store the parameters in EEprom and everything works fine: with VL53L1X_GetResult() I can see the distance of the object and when it moves away, the status returns "2 ", then I can ignore the measured distance and assume that there is no object.The problem is that when I restart the board and send the previously saved calibration parameters with VL53L1X_SetXtalk() and VL53L1X_SetOffset(), the status always returns NO ERROR and an incorrect distance.I also tried the following procedure from VL53L1X ultra lite driver with the same results.Any suggestions?Thanks.Lucio

Hi,I have a VL53L8CX Sensor on a Satel-VL53L8 board that I am controlling with a custom microcontrollerboard that has an ESP32-S2 chip. I want the microcontroller to sleep until the sensor triggers the Int Pin, based on a threshold that I configure in advance. My knowledge of configuring thresholds goes as far as the provided example of the VL53L8CX arduino library (here). I havent really found a documentation for configuring interrupts.As far as I understand the Int Pin trigger has to be a falling edge. However I think the sleep method of the ESP does not provide a falling edge trigger for waking up (

Used sensor: VL53L1XApplication: TOF sensor is on bottom of a liquid filled container to measure the fill level. The light of the TOF-sensor is reflected on:1) Liquid surface (water to air, oil to air)2) Container roof surfaceIs it possible to mask out one of the reflective surfaces by limit the accepted distance for the measurement (or better: time of flight) to an expected range?E.g: The red light in the sketch will have a longer 'travel time' as the magenta light because the time to travel trough the air volume is added. If I could mask the sensor to 'see' only times below/above a given limit, I could mask out one of the reflective surfaces.

I am trying to use the VL53L5CX with Zephyr. The read and write functions of the platform files seem to work well, but when running an example and attempting to initialize the sensor, when I reach the point of resetting the MCU, I receive a 255 from register 0x07, which stores the value in go2_status1. According to the UDL documentation, this is a timeout or I2C error, but I don't know what could be causing it. The I2C address of the device is correctly configured, and I am unsure about the cause of the timeout. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

I need to find out what data does xtalk buffer provide to sensor. I know what some parts of it mean, but I need to know what is the meaning of all parts. Is there any documentation about it?

Hello ST community, I am currently working on a project using the VL53L1X sensor with Arduino, and I am seeking guidance on dynamically changing the measurement mode and Time Budget (TB) within the VOID LOOP of my Arduino sketch. Specifically, I would like to know: Is there a way to dynamically switch between measurement modes (e.g., short, medium, long) during the execution of the program? How can I adjust the Time Budget (TB) for the VL53L1X sensor within the VOID LOOP to accommodate different measurement scenarios? Any code snippets, examples, or insights on how to achieve this dynamic configuration within the loop would be immensely helpful. Thank you for your assistance.

I communicate with a VL53L1X-SATEL over I2C from a PSoC 5LP as I2C-master. The sensor as I2C-slave acknowledes commands as expected, but each register I try to read returns 0x00. I tried a for loop to read every register from 0 counting up, but the sensor always return 0x00. What could be a reason for such a behaviour? Please see the scope view of a read sequence to register 0x83.

Hi guys, I'm using vl53l7cx without cover glass.I use the Example_1_ranging_basic in VL53LMZ_ULD_API driver, but i alway receive the result with target_status 6 and the  result's distance_mm seem not correct.Eg i put an target about 300mm in front of the sensor and get result as below in resolution 4x4:1168-6, 1348-6, 1302-6, 1243-61213-6, 1371-6, 1330-6, 1249-61240-6, 1381-6, 1332-6, 1253-61215-6, 1360-6, 1317-6, 1248-6So i wonder if i miss any config to get the correct ranging result?Thanks.

In VL53L5CXV0GC Typical application schematic, The pin RSVD6 must connect a 47 kΩ pullup resistor to IOVDD. If I keep this pin as floating, what will happen? Will power consumption increase? Or is the detection inaccurate?Thany you. 

Hi, I have two VL53L5CX and use glass to cover them. We can call them A&B.To A, I use the VL53L5CX_XTalkCalibration   function after init. To B, I do nothing.But result of both are close. Does it mean I can cover the glass without calibration?

Hi,I am testing a VL53L4CD sensor for a measurement application. I am using the example code from the API to test out the sensor and I'm having an issue with the minimum distance of the sensor. It will not report a measurement range less than 70mm and when the target is closer than 70mm it reports range status 3. The API documentation says that range status error 3 means that the distance is below the detection threshold but has no other information about the error. I have tried changing the detection threshold to 0 with the API function (VL53L4CD_SetDetectionThresholds) but it had no effect on this error. I don't see any other information in the API manual that appears relevant, but this API doesn't seem to have as much documentation as the APIs for other sensors (I have used the VL6180X a little bit as well, with no issue). Any help with this is much appreciated.

Hi, I was wondering if there was additionaly theory avaliable about the operation of the VL53L5CX TOF sensor? I've already read the datasheets and applications notes. I'm particulalry interested in how the SPAD array identifies the transmitted light pulse? Does this work off the prinicple of lambertian relfection? Also how does the sensor account for the the offset between the FoV of the transmitter and receiver? Would you be able to supply sources where I could read into this theory or is this a company secret? @John E KVAM, @Anne BIGOT, Just mentioned these two names as they seem the most active in response to VL53L5CX quieres.   Kind regards, David   

Hello all,We are currently considering using the VL53L4CD and other ToF / FlightSense products (e.g. the VL6180X) for close-proximity applications.Could you confirm or otherwise that the system field of view of the VL53L4CD - and other sensors based on the same technology and having similar emitter-receiver configurations - is the area of the SPAD receiver's field of view (FoV) that overlaps the VCSEL emitter's field of illumination (FoI), on the target's surface?
