@John E KVAMI ported the gesture recognition example (STSW-IMG035_F401) from the STM32F401RE to the NUCLEO-U575ZI-Q with the X-NUCLEO-53L8A1 and the gesture library (STSW-IMG035_M33).  If I used the VL53LMZ_ULD_API driver included with the GestureKit it seemed to work fine; all gestures were recognized. If I used the VL53L8CX_ULD_API driver (STSW-IMG040), it worked poorly; only the TAP gesture was recognized (and even that was inconsistent).  This was repeatable on the same hardware;  I could load and calibrate the MZ based project and it worked fine, then I could load and calibrate the 8CX based project and it would only recognize the TAP gesture.  I was surprised that the driver intended for

Currently I connected the X-NUCLEO-53L8A1 to F401RE, and I notice that on the web page of VL53L8CH, the sensor can get the data with 64 zones with 18 bins at 15 Hz. But when I use the VL53L8CH with the Example_12_cnh_data which use VL53LMZ_ULD_API, I found that when I set the cnh config to get the data with 64 resolution, 16 bins, and 15Hz, the fps I get from the serial port is only 3.6Hz, not 15Hz. Is there any way to improve the FPS of the code?

However, I have encountered an issue where occasionally, changing the data acquisition rate during the data collection process causes a disruption and prevents further data acquisition.1. As far as I know, dToF has two illumination modes. One is spot dToF (iPhone) and the other is flood illumination. Which one is VL53L8CH? Thanks.

Are formulas 1-4 correct in AN5894?Segment [AC] is the hypotenuse of triangle ACE, and the angle between segments [AC] and [CE] is half the dihedral angle HFOV. Then formula 1 should have a sine instead of a tangent.If I am right, in the example the angle between the segment [CB] and the opposite segment of the pyramid should be [DFoV] = 2*ASin(Sqrt(2*(Sin(60/2))^2)/Sqrt((Sin(60/2) )^2+1)) = 78.5 degrees. This value agrees with measurements made on the 3D model.

Hi!I’d like to know if the Vl53L8xx product series support “SPI daisy-chaining” ?For a project, I’ll need few of those, either “straight” along a line segment ( +/- like Neonode’s ZForce sensor bar ), as a “grid”, or as an “arc section” ( that is, a curved line segment ), and I’d like to maximize speed while minimize the needed pins to control the whole set of n sensors.Regarding my choice among the whole “VL53L” product lineup, it seems it’s the only one that supports SPI, which is one of the main needs for the project, the others being the smallest amount of processing needed on the “controller” uC, and a precise-enough detection of multiplemfingers up to 10cm from the sensor in a reliable manner.From what I can read in the datasheet, it does some “auto-incrementing” stuff when begin given more than the expected 15+8 bits, which may get in the way or even prevent some tricks I had in mind totally ( I guess, wrongly ? )Thi

Hello everybody,I have connected a SATEL-VL53L8 board to my ESP32, and I am trying to run the basic ranging example, using ULD driver. When I run the example, I get VL53L8CX ULD Loading failed in the serial terminal. Trying to figure out what's wrong, I have connected a logic analyzer to the SPI bus, so here is what I know so far:The vl53l8cx_is_alive() function gets a proper response from the chip (0xF0, 0x0C), indicating that the hardware is connected properly, and the SPI bus communication works as expected: The function vl53l8cx_init

I am experimenting with the VL53L5/VL53L8 sensors. For multi-target there are the options of target order of strongest and nearest. This is not a difficult concept. However, I am curious about the algorithm for detecting the peaks in the histogram. I assume there must be some thresholding, so small peaks caused by noise(?) are ignored. I can't see a way to set the threshold, however I see this being difficult, better different thresholds work for different ambient light levels, light noise levels etc... After some quick experiments, I haven't seen any problems. Using nearest rather than strongest target order, may be more sensitive to noise conditions. Any thoughts?

I will be testing out the VL53L8CX_NB, perhaps next week. I notice it has a setting for the number of targets detected per zone. My plan is to have 8x8 setting, so 64 zones. I note the firmware has setting of 1 target per zone. The current setting is strongest target order. My plan is to set the target order to nearest and the target number to 2. Will there be sufficient memory RAM for this? With regards to RAM does this mean the host controller, or the TOF sensor device. If the issue is at the host controller end, it should be easier to resolve. I am hoping just changing this parameter to 2, will be sufficient, for accessing data with regards to 2 targets.

hello, I'm using a vl53l1cb satel board, but I'm not been able to get a reading greater than 4m (aprox).I'm using the vl53l1 zephyr RTOS driver, and I'm aware that the roi selection is different than the one of the UM2133, so I'm not selecting a specific roi, but still the maximun distance reported by the sensor is 4. Do you guys have any suggestion on how to be able to get the maximun distance reading using the zephyr driver?

Hello,We want to do an experiment for smoke detection with ST's ToF technology. We are using the following STM products:    - VL53L8CH    - x-Nucleo-53l7a1     - STSW-IMG043The GUI has so many configurations and it provides raw data and algorithm output data. We are interested in raw data and we want to know which configuration affects the row data. I mean in the same environment, will the sensor raw data change if we change the configuration?What is the effect of ambient light on the sensor's raw outputs? Thank you!

Hello,I am trying to do some ray tracing simulation for your VL53L8CH in a specific environment. I was wondering if you have any data beyond the "Field of Illumination" diagram for your VCSEL emitter (I assume you make your own emitters in-house). An "IESNA TM25" or "SPEOS" ray file would be amazing, but even just a maximum output power in lumens, watts, candelas, etc. would be helpful. That way I can at least know what the percentages in the "Field of Illumination" diagram mean. Also, if you have any detailed CAD on your chip that would allow me to place the emitter in the correct location on the sensor, that would be helpful as well. I have recreated it from your datasheet, but that doesn't have details on how deep the VCSEL is or what shape it is.Thanks,Garrett

Hello,   I'm trying to use the VD6283 sensor on a X-NUCLEO-6283A1 plugged in a Nucleo-64 STM32F401.   For this, I've installed the latest ST-Link drivers and the software STSW-IMG301. My board is well recognized on Windows device manager as a "STM STLink Virtual COM Port", but when I try to launch the VD6283_GUI application, I've the following error : "SensorSystem..ctor():Le format de la chaîne d'entrée est incorrect" / "SensorSystem..ctor():Input string is not in correct format".   I've tried to launch it also with admin privileges but it's still not working.   Application version : 1.0.0 - r862 Windows : 11 Pro   Thanks

Hello, i want to use the VL53L1X, or equal TOF sensor in humid and pressurised environments. First Prototypen are potted into Epoxyd-Resin.  I also want to try parylene coating, because of hydrophob surface.  For that reason I want to ask, if anyone has done this case succesfully, or wich hydrophob potting material is preffered?  Maybe there is already a easier solution on the market for optical measurements in humid enviroment?    Many thanks in advance,    MIKE    

I am using the IMG403 EVK GUI to test and validate the module VL53L7CH in a product. I am facing a few issues in the GUI. While trying to plot the histogram in "Zone 8x8" mode, I am getting an error. Similarly, if I change the configuration "MZ-AI Configuration" settings spreadsheet, again I am getting another error. I can be able to just run the preset configuration but can't be able to modify the parameters. My aim to test the module with all possible configurations. Kindly help me on this issue.

Hi,  I'm using a VL53L4CD_SATEL board and I would like to switch between Thresholds detection interrupt and Data available interrupt. To be more clear, by default, I have an interrupt each time a measurement is available.If I check the low/high/window parameters of DetectionThresholds, they are set to 0. Now if I set a Threshold, for example  sensor.VL53L4CD_SetDetectionThresholds(150,150, 0);now my IT is only triggered when the range is below150mm. But my problem is when I want to come back in "normal" case, without threshold, I would like to have an IT triggered at each time a data is available, i've tried to put ma values back to 0 with  sensor.VL53L4CD_SetDetectionThresholds(0,0, 0);but it is not working

Hello, I am trying to get gesture detection (swipe UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) with the VL53L8CX working on an STM32U575 running an RTOS.  I currently have a X-NUCLEO-53L8A1 plugged into a NUCLEO-U575ZI-Q board running Segger embOS in a C++ project.  I have been able to successfully configure and collect ranging data from the ToF sensor by extracting and modifying the example code in en.STSW-IMG040.zip\VL53L8CX_ULD_driver_1.2.1\Examples\ and using HAL_I2C_Mem_Write() and HAL_I2C_Mem_Read() for the implementation for the platform WrXxx() and RdXxx() functions.However, when I try to use the GestureKit ULD in en.STSW-IMG035_M33.zip and code extracted and modified from the example in en.STSW-IMG035_F401.zip\VL53L5_GestureKit_ULD_1.5.0\Example\Gesture\gestures_example.c:gesture_library_init_configure() fails because GW_set_frequency() fails with error -6, indicating that the frequency is invalid. Hello,  As suggested in my last post here, I am trying to read the ID Value of a VL53L1X sensor. I get a read failure when I attempt to read the register. Strangely, I have slightly modified code that I am using to read the ID register of a VL53l0X which I am able to run successfully. Further, I know I do not have a hardware or wiring problem because I am able to use the sensor for ranging just fine. I have copied my basic ESP32 Arduino sketch below, any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Hello community, I am working on a project that involves measuring a precise distance of 2 meters from the ground during an object’s free fall. I am considering using Time-of-Flight (ToF) modules from ST for this purpose and would like some guidance on which modules would be best suited for this application. Could you please advise if the VL53L8 module, or any other ST ToF modules, would be capable of accurately measuring a 2-meter distance in a free-fall scenario?
