STM32 MCUs Motor control

Posted on January 28, 2016 at 19:23Hello, I'm currently using Open loop mode for debugging my hardware, current readings and such. I have found by trial and error the best values for the offset and slope of the V/f curve, such that the motors work on the full range of speeds. However, when I set negative velocities through MCI_ExecSpeedRamp(MCI, Vel, time), the motors do not behave the same as in the positive direction. If I replace my offset and slope values by the default ones, the motors behave similarly in both directions. Am I missing some step to make Open loop work with my V/f curve? On another topic: How can I obtain the confidential distribution of FOC SDK? I've phoned ST's sales, which directed me to my local distributors. I've contacted several distributors on my country. Posted on February 26, 2016 at 14:33I have obtained a STEVAL-IHM040v1 board a while ago and worked on it with six-step motor commutation method. But now, İ have to use it with FOC method, so I am trying to use STM32 PMSM FOC SDK in order to configure and control the board. I have managed to change the GUI for the board and the motor that I'm using. Then I've tried to download the code into the board and it succeeded (I am using IAR EWARM by the way). But nothing happened, it did not drive the motor. Here are the details: - I disabled the on/off switch option from the Motor Control WB GUI since there is no switch on the board. - I have entered my motor parameters correctly for sure. - Checked analog and digital pins one-by-one, they seem correct (I opened the example project for IHM040v1 from ST MC WB, so I think they are correct by default) - Checked the minimum and maximum voltage supply

Posted on March 10, 2016 at 13:16Hello All,I want to implement FOC for BLDC using STEVAL-IHM040V1.I am following STM32 PMSM FOC SDK 4.2 Hands-on workshop with hardware tools document.I have installed all the required softwares.I am choosing STEVAL-IHM040V1 from STMC workbench and STM32F10X from IAR workspace. I am not sure about which is control program for FOC implementation.Can anybody explain how to make it happen.Can somebody guide me about STEVAL-IHM040V1 firmware control program for FOC.Any help will be great. #foc-bldc #steval-ihm040v1

Posted on March 29, 2016 at 11:00Hi, we are using FOC SDK 4.1 with ICS current sensing and State Observer + PLL. A Motor with 21 pole pairs and Rs 11mOhms and Ls 0,017mH runs up to 6000 rpm very well.  Now changing to Speed / Feedback with Hall Sensor for improved startup give some problems in current regulation. Startup works perfect, currents are near sinusoidal up to 1800 rpm (more perfect on observer + pll). On higher RPM the phase currents look like positon is not right calculated. The amplitudes of the currents are very different and are not synchronous with the speed for a short time, then be synchronized hard with high current amplitude.Are there any known limitations with ICS and Hall sensors? Change in the current/hall filtering or engine setups brought no improvement. Any help will be great. 30.03.2016 Problems solved running smoothly

One of our US agents told me that ''UL has been working with the BLDC microcontroller manufacturers to review the codes they are developing for common controller functions. In other words, the microcontroller manufacturers are creating libraries of software for common BLDC functions. UL is reviewing and approving these software modules. This allows the end customer use these pre-approved codes in their software and shorten the approval process of BLDC motors through UL. I found um1052 for sdk 4.3 is very detailed, but um2380 didn't say any thing about the serial protocol it uses. Looking at the FOC SDK, this function, and others like this one, is of interest to me:uint16_t PWMC_SetPhaseVoltage(CPWMC this, Volt_Components Valfa_beta);How can I get the source files for this function? It seems to be embedded in a library, but this shouldn't have any IP, since it is just a peripheral interface. Thanks for the help!

Posted on May 21, 2016 at 00:03Hi! I'm developing software to control a small, sensorless IPMSM at very low speeds (0-90RPM) using STM FOC SDK v4.2 on a STM32F4xx. I've already got the motor (using a custom board), but I'm having trouble making it run. I know I won't be able to control it using the lib in Speed Control Mode (due to the 6 RPM resolution), but I'm planning to control it in Torque Control Mode with an external loop. My efforts are right now in successfully getting a precise rotor position feedback. I've seen the steps I should follow to tune the HFI algorithm, and it's quite clear I must first of all tune the B-EMF State Observer parameters. My first question comes here: 1) Does the HFI algorithm really need it, or is it just for changing to the STO estimator (assuming most applications do need high speed ranges) after the speed threshold? If that were the case, I wouldn't need it.

Posted on November 21, 2016 at 19:11Hello.I want to use this SDK with encoder.I configured the encoder as the main sensor and programmed the EVB (I am using the P-NUCLEO-IHM001).The motor starts rotating, but then I turn the encoder wires off it continues to rotate at the right speed. Why?In this situation I'm pretty sure it would give a fault...I have the feeling that my encoder is not being used and the motor starts with sensorless and never enable encoder reading.Thank you. #encoder #sdk-4.3

Posted on November 30, 2016 at 16:44Hi, We have been using ST FOC SDK for more than a year. We make driver boards for HVAC motors with 1/2hp(375W)~1hp(750W). Our customer satisfies with the efficiency of our boards. However, the customer received a board from another vendor who uses another chip vendor's FOC solution last week. That board provides similar efficiency but is much more quiet than our boards. Our boards have audible noise while start up even with no load. The sound keeps noticeable loud until the load is increased the rated output. The sound is similar to the sound from a stepper motor controlled by a low end driver with wrong decay setting. We have tried reduce the current in start-up parameter but it doesn't help. Would you please give us some suggestions to eliminate this noise. best regards, KF Lam

Posted on April 02, 2018 at 20:57I'm attempting to generate project code for the STEVAL-SPIN3202.ST32CubeMX doesn't have an option for the STEVAL-SPIN3202 so I tried using the ST Motor Control Workbench and it gives an error 'STSPIN mcu not supported in the FW for SDK5'.Meanwhile, I'm using the example project provided in 'STSW-SPIN3202'.Is there an add-on for ST32CubeMX to generate code for the STEVAL-SPIN3202?Should the ST Motor Control Workbench generate code for the STEVAL-SPIN3202?Is the STEVAL-SPIN3202 and older product and maybe I'd find better support for a newer variant?

I have the Bull Running motor which came with the kit which I have managed to set-up and is running well, I also have another hobby sized motor all set up and running as I would like.However I also have a smaller 2 pole, (R = 14 Ohm, L = 4.6 mH) which I would like to run also through the sensorless FOC. However, once I put in the new parameters it spools up, as per the startup sequence, but does not swap over to the FOC control. Giving Speed Feedback errors. Posted on May 12, 2017 at 07:33Hello all,I recently X-NUCLEO-IHM08M1 expansion board for a STM32F303RE NUCLEO board and I'm struggling to get it to drive a motor.Note: I'm using version 4.3 of the motor control SDK.I can successfully connect the motor profiler to the board and start the sequence but it never starts the motor.  The motor is a small 7 pole pair, 2300kV motor (0.43V/krpm), with a low winding resistance and inductance, Rm ~0.3mOhm, unknown inductance, I don't have the equipment to measure inductance without the motor profiler.I have configured the IHM08M1 board as per the link in the profiler, removed R181, and bridged the jumpers to enable 3 shunt mode, and placed all the jumpers in the correct place.When I start the profiler test, the motor twitches and I get a warning in the electrical model area saying that it's optimised for Rm > 1Ohm, and L > 1uH.  The motor never spins.&nbsp
