Posted on April 01, 2015 at 17:49Hi,I recently bought an evaluation board STEVAL-IHM025V1 and I am having problems to make it work. I want to control a three phases induction motor. The board is supplied with 230VAC, and I can see the DC bus voltage equals to 325Vdc. I create 3 PWM with a DSPic33e, they are correctly shifted to control a 3 phases induction motor. After I control my device with this signals but the outputs aren't what I expected. I visualise the same signal for the three ouptuts, a sinus signal with a 150V amplitude with no shift. The pin SD is correctly control. So I don't know where is the matter, if you have any idea! Thank you. Benjamin L.

Posted on March 18, 2015 at 13:42I am currently stuck with a strange phenomenon, and I am not sure anymore if what I do is how I should do it... In my appliaction with the ST FOC library 4.0, I need to do some additional A/D conversions. This needs to be done as fast as possible. First I tried to use MC_RequestRegularConv/MC_GetRegularConv. This seemed to work, but was too slow as the conversions take place in TSK_SafetyTask at a 2kHz rate only. I figured that the code there is using PWMC_ExecRegularConv to actually do the conversion. Posted on March 22, 2015 at 18:38Hi!I want to ask your help, and experience.I got an unknown motor, but i measured the parameters by the STM32PMSMFOCSDK40_HandsOn v1.1.pdf  documentation and by internet.But something not correct yet.My system is STM32F303VC controller, with 1 shunt resistor, and i use the embeded OAMP order to sensing current.The motor start correctly  (but at 1500 rpm vibrating and dithering, but at 1600 rpm starts run smooth) at the end of the spin up preiod start to contol the speed by the PID regulator. In the run state the motor runs smooth, but late starts to to vibrate and dither more and more, at the end suddenly stopped. My question:I measured myself the all parameters of the motor, and maybe i made a mistake.Where can i search the reason of dithering? During the dithering use more current than norm

I am writing a piece code that can be used by any of our engineers for the L6482, L6472, L6480 or L6470.  BUT you have to specify which one you are using.  What would be great is at power up, if I could read the part number (or other identifying information) from the part, I could automatically make any necessary firmware adjustments. Posted on February 06, 2015 at 19:36hello every body,i generated header files using MC workbench, and then copy them into sys_drive_param folder. then when i open workspace in project folder. it contains only STM32F30x_userpoeject, but according to the um1054 mannual , there should also be STM32F30x_MCLibrary,  can i compile the code without adding STM32F30x_MCLibrary, and batch build is necessary for web distribution lib.? please guide me..thanks

Posted on October 24, 2014 at 14:44Hi Gigi, I was playing with sensorless rev-up and found a feature not doing what I expected, or maybe also not knowing how to use it correctly. I use Observer+Cordic scheme, and enabled the ''Rev-up to FOC switch-over'' feature. I extended the duration to 500ms, in order to understand what the library is doing during that time. The result was that the motor started accelerating quickly after end of rev-up, for these 500ms. After that time, FOC took over completely and declerated hard to the desired rpm. If I disable this feature, then everything works fine, I juse hear a click in the motor in the moment FOC takes over. So my question is here: am I doing something wrong, what is this feature for, is it possible that it does not work? Regards Frank

Posted on April 22, 2014 at 14:31Hi, We have an application with a small steppermotor with only a small load. the current and voltage we use is way too high for the motor for longer periods of time, we only use it in short bursts. The problem is that we cannot set the acceleration of the L6472 high enough. our stroke is only 2 turns and it never gets to its maximum speed. Is there a way to increase the 'Tick' speed? 25 - 50% would be ideal for us. Thanks, Remco #l6470-l6472 #l6470

Posted on February 28, 2015 at 13:36Hi There!There's something that I could not understand in the Daisy Chain configuration of the L6470 Stepper Motor Driver. Apart from the SPI Signals and the mechanism of driving each device individually or all simultaneously by means of byte sequences and rising the 'CS' Signal to that n-Byte device, the wiring for the other signals used by the host (BUSY, FLAG, STCK, and STBY_RESET) are still vague to me when two or more EVAL6470 boards are daisy chained. Since the same signals are repeated across the boards, I don't understand how one of them, say the BUSY signal, could drive one and only one LED, while the signal is extended to include all other LEDs in the EVAL6470 boards? Did I miss something here? Thanks in advance!Zaher

Posted on February 20, 2015 at 01:33 We are using VIPER17 in our products as a standby power supply for a couple of years in mass production. Recently we faced a problem that if the mains is off and on again this power supply can not start-up. Mains has to be off for a long time (more than hour) for this power supply to be able to start-up. The problem is not related to the heat, input voltage or load conditions. Replacing IC with another from old stock fixed this problem. Increasing the value of CDD ( to pin 5)also fixed this problem. Our tests show:- after mains was OFF for a long time (>2Hr), discharge current IDDch was 2.4mA and unit started successfully . - if Mains was OFF for short time (but bulk capacitor is still charged) , discharge current IDDch was 3.43mA and unit could not start.- if Mains was OFF a

Posted on February 15, 2015 at 04:41Hi, I got some information about VIPer06 from google search, it can be applied for 440 VAC input, but the drain current is only 350mA, my requirement is greater than 2A, in ST web site, if I choose VIPer100A-E,   does this component can be applied for 440 VAC input ? Additionally, according to the datasheet of VIPer100A-E, it showed as below : ''Typical applications cover offline power supplies with a secondary power capability of 50W in wide range condition and 100W in single range or with doubler configuration'' Does it mean the maximum output power is 100W only ? my requirement is 140W DC output, anyone can help me ? thanks !  

Posted on January 13, 2015 at 20:37I am having trouble driving a peltier device with the VNH5019. The channel config. in the scope pictures is as follows:1. Vin to H-bridge2. PWM logic in3. A leg out4. B leg outGoodDrive.bmp shows what's supposed to happen. When the 50% 10kHz PWM pulses on 12 V is applied to the peltier, which should draw up to 12 A. But sometimes it turns out like in BadDrive.bmp where the peltier drive is cutoff prematurely, and then the next several PWM cycles are skipped. It seems to depend on the exact instance of the H-Bridge used, peltier used, or temperature gradient of the peltier; i.e. I think something is just right on the edge of working.I put a 27 uH inductor on both legs, and the situation improved a little as in L.bmp. Not sure what the problem is. Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated. #vnh5019

Posted on February 11, 2015 at 22:42I'm trying to use an X-NUCLEO-IHM01A1, but without an STM32 board. That is, I need to wire up each of the necessary pins individually, sending the proper signals via another microcontroller.For now, I just need to get to the point at which the board powers up and the green D7 LED comes on.  What steps do I need to perform?  I applied 3.3V to the IOREF pin on CN6 and I tied the the /RST pin on CN5 to 3.3V.  Are these steps correct, and what else do I need to do?

In applications with other drivers we've added RC filters on the outputs between switches and motor to dampen the switching noise. Is this recommended for the L6235? Should these components NOT be included (does the device have proper filtering internally?) -D #l6235

Posted on January 03, 2015 at 02:50Hi,Does 3PHASELV-KIT board support a 2 pole motor with 40,000 rpm max speed? the datasheet for 3PHASELV-KIT shows it supports a 6 pole motor up to 3000 rpm, so for a 2 pole motor, I would expect it can support up to 9000 rpm. what about higher? can I set higher RPMs in firmware? #bldc #pmsm #3phaselv-kit

Posted on January 08, 2015 at 20:54There is no useful information on the ST website (none I can find in three days) that explains which PC GUIs can be used with which eval systems. Can someone explain which PC GUIs are avaliable for which Eval systems and what functions they implement? The ST website has much information on the HW, but none on the SW except links to download, but so far, none of them will launch without the EVAL board connected, so I cant even see screen shots except for the PractiSpin, but I dont know what HW that works with. AN1794 discusses PractiSpin, but I cannot find a similar discussion of c or dSPIN and cannot order harware until I know what the GUI does. Various documents for the dSPIN HW refer to ''available GUI'' but no links or discussion of what that is.

Posted on December 03, 2014 at 19:24For EVAL6229 or EVAL6235 with PractiSpin board it looks like 3.3V or 5V reference is from other PCB, is there a way for L6229 or L6235 to supply 5V (for EN, F/R, BRAKE) internally? Does ST make compatible 8-52V to 5V (or 3.3V) DC-DC conveter that would be good companion for L6229 if this cannot make own 5V source (like L4971 but with fixed output and not needing so many external components?)
