I came across L6230 driver ic, but is giving nearly 2.5amp. I need help to implement with l6230. I have doubt as follows.If i use L6230 and if i connect mosfet for the three output pins, then will it work? #l6230

Posted on December 03, 2015 at 19:57Ive using 4 L6470 in a 3D printer application. The limit switch inputs are acting erratically. Sometime they work, when switch goes low driver stops, and I can see the switch input on the status. But then other times no matter what I do, I cant see ANY limit switch inputs in the status on ANY of the motors, and the motor will grind until an overheat condition occurs. There doesnt seem to be any switch event occurring either. Same for ALL the switches, all at the same time. They either work or dont. These are the Sparkfun eval boards. I dont daisy chain, use separate CS for each board. Any ideas why?

Posted on November 17, 2015 at 02:16Hello, I'm having trouble building any of the example projects in the SPN7 package.  I'm using AC6 tools on the Nucleo-030 board.  The projects can be imported but won't build due to many many wrong paths for includes and only partial imports and many other file problems.  I've tried different ways and I'm about to start just copying files and manually adding them to a blank project. Is there any advice on building these examples for testing them??? Also, this is listed as a CubeMX extension or add-on or whatever.  As far as I can tell there is nothing related to CubeMX in the SPN7 package.  No .ioc file or anything.  Am I missing something??? Posted on October 23, 2015 at 01:53Many of the equations for the motion controller within the L6482 use 250 ns as their time reference (tick). Does this value scale with clock frequency or is it divided by the appropriate values to always generate a 4MHz clock. I am trying to do high acceleration moves and the only way to do this seems to be getting tick down to a lower value. 125 ns ticks will get me what I need. #l6482-clock-tick-acceleration

I use the board with stepper motor to moves a cart on the linear drives. The move will be limited by proximity sensor that activates the interrupt on my board. (I use Arduino board). I use 45V with 3A for my stepper motor. Everything was okay with the coding. But as I try to improve the code for my application, I'd accidentally mess up the board, The situation was like this:1.During setup, the L6474 library will be activated.  And the motor will be rotates towards the proximity sensor.2. Normally after reaching the sensor, interrupt will be activated and then the HardStop() function will be followed. (This code was ok.)3. But as I play with the code, after the interrupt activates, I use the Reset() function instead of the HardStop() function. (Silly but dummy

With a PWM period of 64us (15.625K) how this PWM can set a desired current for each micro step. Moreover how this works when motor time constant L/R is typical about a msec.

Posted on September 01, 2015 at 09:43Hello,I'm using an L6470 over SPI to change between two speeds every few seconds (say 1000 steps/s <-> 1100 steps/s). To achieve this I am issuing the Run command alternating between my two set points.I have noticed that every time I swap speeds the current reduces very slightly. After my application has been running for an hour the current has reduced to such a point where there is no longer enough torque to turn the motor. Setting the motor to 0 steps/s (again using the Run command) and back causes the current to return to normal. If I leave the motor to run at a constant speed, there is no change in current over the time period. Stopping the motor between each speed change is not ideal.To debug this problem I have tried to remove all status polling and that did not help. Posted on October 27, 2015 at 21:37I am having troubles controlling the speed of my motor below ~100 RPM (~10Hz on the halls). I am having similar issues with both Hall Effect and sensor-less modes. I could understand this being an issue with the sensor-less mode due to the current signal getting hard to interpret at these levels. But there doesn't seem to be much I can tweak other than the kp and ki to get this working better with the Hall Effects, and I get minimal response in this range playing with the Rev Up config in sensorless mode. I continually get Speed Feedback errors, which often can be attributed to gain configuration it seems when the PIDs get out of control, but other times it's not terribly obvious what is wrong...Ideally I need to be able to creep the motor along rather slowly (~20-40 RPM) for this application, so overshoot on startup isn't terribly acceptable...The motor seems to run just fine above 100 R

During the ''braking phase'' the motor is brake in order to stop it before the new acceleration.'' However, there are 3 brake strategies, dissipative brake resistor, motor phases short-circuiting & motor phases free-wheeling, in the FOC library. The user manual does not have any detail explanation about the brake strategy being used in the on-the-fly start-up. Below is some questions we'd like to ask. 1. Which brake strategy is being used in the on-the-fly start-up? 2. Can we choose the brake strategy? 3. Any extra circuitry is needed for using the brake feature? Posted on October 20, 2015 at 14:44I am working  a bipolar stepper motor against a spring to assess the torque delivered. The test drives a set distance and then returns. Software produces a constant accel profile in incremental steps of pulse rate. Most of travel is a constant speed ( in the region of 2kHz pulse freq ). At some stage the motor skips steps when the spring tension passes the torque it can deliver. This is the expected test result. Usually this will result in some lost steps and the motor return but looses positional accuracy. However sometimes the L6474 drops out and the motor falls back under the force of the spring. The return motion is not occurring and the output is powered off. I have a hardware interrupt on the FLAG pin that will report an error and interrogate the chips STATUS register for a diagnostic. On the page 6, 10 we can see signals on shunt resistor. How it is possible it's bipolar? I my opinion current (and shunt resistor voltage) shouldn't have values below zero except some noises. Could anyone explain this?

When we were implementing the PFC features, we encountered an error in compilation in IAR, If the compilation is succesful, we cant see the effect of the PFC in the our measurements.

Posted on September 10, 2015 at 09:57Enrico, There seems to be quite complex patented algo with about half a dozen adjustable parameters. I have seen one of your comments elsewhere that suggested some configs can make the circuit unstable and oscillatory.  The data sheet explains the basic operation but this is not sufficient to engineer a proper configuration.  Suck-it-and-see , from an engineering perspective ... sucks. Is there any guidance on how to correctly parametrise these L64xx family chips? Thanks.

Using the default register configurations the chips are rapidly getting very hot and causing a TH_WRN condition. I found a post here that stated that the default config caused high frequency switching which produced ''strong'' heat dissipation. It also recommended some alternative configuration, the main change of which was reducing TON_MIN from 20.4 µs to 4µs .  There was also suggest that some configurations lead to the control algorithm being unstable. I did that and reduced slew-rate and now the chips are getting to a much more reasonable circa 60 deg. C. while this did provide a convenient opportunity to test my ISR handling FLAG input change, it seems odd that the chip is not supplied with a better default configuration. What kind of motor loading is the default config suitable
