Posted on December 04, 2014 at 00:32Hello, I have a design using several L6472 ICs.  Everything seems to work fine except when I go to read the abs_pos register.  For instance: if the position register is reading 0x00084AF and I command the driver to move the motor 400 half-steps (bi polar motor and half stepping) I get a full revolution of the motor but when I read the abs_pos register after the move it reads 0x00086BF.  A change of 528.  If I tell the driver to move another 400 half-steps in the same direction and then read the abs_reg again it reads 0x00087CF.  A change of 272.  It is odd that the sum of the differences is 800.  Am I missing something basic here?

Posted on August 13, 2014 at 09:29In the Library there is the function SPD_SetMecAngle. Reading all available help and documentation, I am not sure what the purpose of this functions is.Here my question: Can I use the  function SPD_SetMecAngle to let a motor move by setting a mechanical angle.If I increment the angle in a fixed time interval, is the motor then following the requested mechanical position? #foc-library-stm32

Posted on December 01, 2014 at 23:48I purchased the L6229Q eval board and have connected to a 3-phase BLDC motor (H1, H2, H3, OUT1, OUT2, OUT3). I have VDD and EN connected to a 5V supply with SGND and VS connected to a sceond 12V supply with PGND. I am getting no response when I apply 0-5V signal to Vref (SGND reference) and there is no output on TACHO when I rotate the motor by hand (but I can see PIN 25-27 getting correct 5V inputs.) Is it a bad device or have I misunderstood connections? #l6229-l6229q

Posted on October 17, 2014 at 13:21Dear Enrico, In my application, I have a power board (generating 24V, 7V) and control board (contains uC, L6474) connected with cables. I have used 24V for L6474 Power pins and 5V for Microcontroller and Digital logic of L6474. As suggested in datasheets, all ground pins of L6474 (PGND, AGND, DGND) are tied to 24V gnd. Ground track of 5V is rated only for 1Amp whereas 24V ground track is rated for 3A. I'm using a star point connection to connect 24Vgnd and 5V gnd. How to ensure the motor current  doesn't take 5V gnd path  for return? Please refer the attachment. Regards Senthil #l6474-grounding #l6474-grounding

Posted on November 09, 2014 at 21:23Hello, I'm having a lot of trouble trying to simply talk to the L6470 using SPI. When I send any byte whether it be a valid command or not, the L6470 simply sends the command back on the next SPI transfer. How is this possible?I've checked the 3.3V reg (not used in my design) and it outputs correct voltage, though the OSCOUT (not used) pin has an odd clock signal on it. The OSCOUT signal is oscillating, but it is high for most of each clock period and dips low briefly before rising back to high again. #l6470

Sending data but I get no response from the pin DSO of  the first L6470. And I want to know the current position (and current number of rotations) of the motor. The ABS_POS register is contains the current motor absolute position in agreement with the selected step mode. When the step mode can change automatically from microstep to full-step depending on the FS_SPD register, is the value at ABS_POS register enable? If not, are there any other way to know the current position (=number of steps)? Thank you.  #l6470

Posted on October 24, 2014 at 14:53Hi, I am not entierly sure how to correctly enter my motor parameters, and which effect they have, can anyone check if I am doing this correctly (sensorless operation with cordic startup, no extra features like flux weakening, bus voltage sensing): - max rated speed: used for fault detection only, correct? - nominal current: used for torque limitation, correct? - nominal dc voltage: what is this value used for? - Rs: this is meant per leg, so I measure the DC resistance between two phases and divide this by two - Ls: same as Rs, measured at 100Hz - demagnetizing current: what is this value used for? - B-EmfConstant: I drive the motor externally, measure the AC voltage between two legs, calculate the RMS from that, divide this by used RPM, multiply with 1000 Any help is appreciated. Posted on October 24, 2014 at 15:01Hi Gigi, I currently browsing the library source code to see how I can integrate this start-up behavior: 1) start FOC algorithm using rough angle given by hall sensors 2) wait for I channel of quadrature encoder to trigger an interrupt 3) set (overwrite) mechanical angle to known value 4) use encoder feedback instead of hall from now on Would that be a possible feature for a future version of the library? My application is a servo system that must be able to deliver torque even at standstill and immediately after boot-up. Regards Frank

Posted on October 26, 2014 at 05:55I need a Full Bridge driver IC capable of at least 2.5 Amps at 125 kHz.The L6225 connected in parallel looks good but the highest frequency is only rated to 100 kHzIs there a higher frequency version of this or can it be driven ok at higher than rated switching frequency?. Thanks #h-bridge #full-bridge-driver

I see ST data is used RLC meter measurement frequency at 100 Hz, but the motor is running in the PWM 16K frequency, whether I used RLC meter frequency measurement of 10K or 100Hz? Posted on September 05, 2014 at 03:36I'm finding that the L6474 runs terribly hot even at 1.4 amps . Its on a decent PCB with 20 plates thru tholes a small heatsink (1'' x 1'') on the back and it will rise to 110 C in less than 2 minutes . It is the power36 package too.  My PS voltage is 42 volts.  My charge pump voltage is about 8 volts. And it doesn't matter much whether i power the logic externally with a 3.3 volt regulator or not.  I've put a lot of effort into designing this small controller , but at this rate i may have to move to a better chip.  I've used the L6207 in the past and it ran very cool at 2amps/phase and 45 volts.  It was the larger 24 powerDip  Why would ST make this chip so small and have mosfets with a high on resistance ?  A larger chip would have been alot better. I can't even imagine using the L6474H with the tiny TSSOP package. &nbsp

I was previously able to run it from another machine with xp, I installed the same files but cannot connect to the board. I get a windows error with the following parameters: EventType : clr20r3     P1 : gui.exe     P2 : 1.2.5071.18356     P3 : 528b2b58 P4 : mscorlib     P5 : 2.0.0.0     P6 : 4a7ce2b8     P7 : 1295     P8 : 14     P9 : system.missingmethodexception     On the other system I get an error with spi_dll when I connect, any ideas? Posted on September 18, 2014 at 21:39Dear Motor IC Forum: I am using an L6470 to drive a stepper motor attached to a gearbox and am not able to achieve step rates greater than roughly 700 steps/sec with any microstepping setting. The motor gets loud and stalls as speeds increase. At speeds below 500 steps/sec the motor works perfectly. The Rm of the motor is 4.5 ohms. The Lm is 3.6mh (spec sheet). The Ke is 0.143 v/hz (approximately). I have played with all setting except pmt and have not been able to get more speed. I need roughly 2000 steps/sec. I also tried the L6472 on the same setup and had no issues reaching the required speeds. The problem is I also need to run at very low step rates of 5-10 steps/second at 1/16th steps. With the L6472 the motor is not smooth enough and vibrates quite a bit. What I need is the high speed range of the L6472 and the low speed smoothness of the L6470. &nbsp

Posted on September 27, 2014 at 14:10I am currently trying to deploy the STM32 foc library (v3.4 currently, v4.0 available not not tried yet) on a custom designed board. The motor does not startup, and I have tracked down the problem to a polarity mismatch in the ICS current measurement. In my design, current flowing out of the motor into the inverter has a positive sign. The library expects it the opposite way. As that polarity is now given (and was also necessary due to layout constraints) and I do not want to add an inverting buffer - is there a way to modify or fool the library to accept that negative gain? For example, inverting ADC readout for the respective channels. Or can I just set ''AMPLIFICATION_GAIN'' to a negative value?
