Posted on March 11, 2015 at 10:54Hi, the application note DT0001 suggests controlling the motor speed by using the FWD/REV pin with a duty cycle. Though this sounds very promising especially for feed-back controller design I was wondering what happens if the motor is running in one direction and I force the motor to drive the other way. Isn't the motor than used in generator mode acting as a voltage source? Has anyone had experience with this usage and how is the L6235 reacting to it - where is the power burned? Posted on June 05, 2015 at 16:53Hi,    We have a couple boards with Powerstep01 engineering preview ICs.   We can get the motor up and spinning, but we ran into a few issues.  First, the register address for CONFIG and STATUS do not match the current version of the datasheet. Is there any place we can download older version of the datasheet that would match the preview IC version.Second, we are using SYNC signal from the powerStep01. The number of pulses we get from SYNC signal is lower than the number of total of steps we should get if we order the motor to move faster than some speed. We already set FS_SPD to 0xFF.   What is odd is that if we power cycle the board, sometime, we actually get correct results. We captured all the register values when it was working and compare to when it was not working, and they are identical.  Can anyone tell us what might be the issue? 

Posted on May 26, 2015 at 13:40When the SW input to the L6470 chip is pulled LOW (by a switch closure or a LOW output from a logic circuit), is the ReleaseSW command the only way to move the motor?  Are all of the other constant speed commands, absolute positioning commands, and motion commands disabled until the SW input to the L6470 is raised? Posted on May 28, 2015 at 14:12 Greetings, We are using this component in a board with a STM32F103CB with FOC firmware 4.0, the parameters code are generated via most recent Motor Control Workbench. The 6 PWM signals are well generated, and the L6230 is being powered with a 30 Volts. DC power line. VSA,VSB are correctly connected, as technical document suggested. VBOOT is well generated and VCP output shows a 10 V square signal of 616 Khz, that it is correct, according to technical doc. But the output at OUT1,OUT2 and OUT 3 reach a maximum of 3 Volts. Due to this the motor is not moving. Where is the problem? Any tip suggestion? Thanks in advance,

Posted on May 08, 2015 at 07:15Dear All,Thank You for your great support as always..I have the following clarifications, Tried to set STALL threshold using the AN2650 procedure, when the STALL threshold value is 00000000 STALL is not set, but when the value is 00000001 the STALL is set. For just a time period of 16us the stall is set.  The frequency of STEP input was 400 HZ and Full-Stepping mode was used. So, is there any other parameter which has to be taken care for proper stall threshold?Does stall threshold value setting should also consider the STEP input frequency?For change in STEP input frequency, the motor is not smooth and stops rotating. Posted on April 29, 2015 at 14:06Hi, I am a student and i am trying to build a current sensing device using rogowski coil and STPM01. I am 'blind' to this project. I read on the datasheet that STPM01 can be used as a single chip monophase energy meter (standalone). What does it mean? Does it mean it does't have to connected to microcontroller all the time? If yes, how can I use and calibrate/program it? Can I use any kind of microcontroller such as Arduino? In standalone mode, which pin can show instantaneous/RMS current of the rogowski coil? What is the sensitivity of the input current channel? (the smallest voltage that can be sensed) I hope there are answers. Thank you.

I load firmware to the board by using the DfuSe demonstration software corresponding to UM1691.I use the “fwlibraries_V2_00_dspin_L6470H_DISC.dfu�? file from ST site. I attached the file to my e-mail. The firmware is downloaded on my board correctly and it is verified. I have two problems apparently.First a problem has in “select target�? part for SPI flash. I print screen the DfuSe tool window of my application and attached it to my e-mail.  In the “select target�? part of window, I have 1 sector instead of 128 sectors. Posted on April 22, 2015 at 18:22Hello all, I am having a bit of trouble with the VNH3SP30-E overheating. the part should be capable of supplying 30Amps continuously however when I supply 20 amps the chip overheats and shuts down after around 10 seconds of operation . the wiring for the part is as it should be according to the datasheet. I couldnt see any heatsync requirements beyond the track widths of the pads under the chip. one thing i thought of was that perhapse i have misunderstood the specification and having 20 amps flowing from one half bridge into the other half bridge is equivalent to 40 amps? I dont think this should be the case. Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated. I will do some more testing and update this post Many thanks Liam #h-bridge #vnh3sp30 #overheat

Posted on April 09, 2015 at 21:02The new version (V2.2 stsw-spin002.zip)  has a much improved setting of motor paramaters, and it now works on XP but the GUI still crashes badly so motors cannot be tested. # GUI crashes hard in both XP and Win 7, in XP = unhandled exception and program terminates # loses comms between board and PC and must close GUI and restart # loses communicatinos when motor is run for an hour # SPEEDregister reads correct value (0.998 s/s), but GUI reports 67 steps per second and reports 670 s/s when motor is running at 10 s/s # GUI will not accept changes in microstep rate # Command error reported in GUI when attempting to pass paramaters to the board. # in setup window (to set motor paramaters), GUI repeatedly crashes in testing ADC level # loss of comms between PC and board when motor runs a long time

Posted on March 04, 2015 at 19:45BEWARE to anyone attempting to use these EVAL L647x boards and the stsw-spin002 GUI, the code is faulty. DON'T attempt to evaluate this hardware unless you know how to deal with the buggy code.  The L6470 is STELLAR, the motor runs with no audible noise. Never seen anything like it. I literally cannot hear the motor run at 100 s/s in a quiet room with my ear right next to the motor. The dSPIN Eval GUI is buggy: ♯ wont run on a good XP SP2 machine with the necessary add ons. Another User mentioned that and got no support. Clearly ST are hiding something. ♯ installs on Win 7 machine but W7 finds it incompatible- sets it to run under XP SP2 mode. No excuse for issuing old buggy code for such a new, flagship product  line. This GUI does is pass a set of register values to/from the board, how hard can that be to fix? XP is no longer supp

Posted on February 27, 2015 at 14:42Hello, I'm trying to control 12V BLDC motor with 3 x 120� Hall sensors, using L6229PD eval board from ST. I'm controlling Speed by connecting 5V PWM signal (0-255) from microprocessor to FRW/REW pin (28) on CN4 connector. Visually everything seems OK - 0 one direction max speed, slowing down to zero when PWM comes close to mid point (128), and then reversing direction to maximum speed when reaching 255.BUT. Motor very quickly looses torque when speed starts to decrease. On 70-180 PWM values it is unusable for my application.How can I have high enough torque when decreasing speed ? Or how to control speed to not to loose the torque so drastically ? P.S. Onboard Speed/Torque switch - can't find any differences in those two modes. #eval6229pd #bldc-motor-control

Posted on September 12, 2014 at 11:22Hi,I'm wondering what is the best approach to proceed with homing, let's say we have two limit switches CW and CCW, when system starts and none of them are pressed it's easy to proceed with homing, i.e moving to CW direction, find lower limits, reset ABS register, move towards CCW and find upper limits,but what if when system starts, for any reason,  one of two limit switches are already pressed?there is only one SW pin on L6472,  CW and CCW limit switches are usually  to be connected in parallel, what is the right direction for release the switch?Actually to solve this dilemma i've used this workaround, add redundant MCU GPIO pins to limit switches, to check any limits before starting homing procedure.I'm wondering if there a more smarter way (i.e. check motor current or whatever) to resolve this issues.Best RegardsMassimi

Posted on March 26, 2015 at 18:53I believe there is an error in the L6482 data sheet. The Register Map indicates a 10-bit wide FS_SPD register. However, the detailed description of the FS_SPD register describes a 12-bit wide register, Bit11 being the boost bit. When I set bit11 and read it back it always returns as 0, suggesting that the 12-bit wide definition is incorrect. So what is correct? Is bit9 the boost bit and bits8-0 are the switch value? #l6482-fs_spd
