Posted on September 08, 2015 at 07:18 hi i got a L6470H disc board and try to run the source code from (dSPIN_Firmware_Library_STM32) and (dSPIN Discovery Kit) project both of them get SPI communication fail: any read of spi get 0xFF, the board is new and all things(ulink, usb, motor power, motor) are plugged. anyone get any idea?

Posted on July 29, 2015 at 07:49Hi,I've been looking for the pwoerstep01 firmware library, searched on '' http://www.st.com/web/en/catalog/tools/FM147/SC1858 '' .I'm sure there is one, because on my steval pcc092V2 SPINFamily Evaluation Software there is a button to create a header file. The most close to a library for this powerSTEP01 I've found was the dSPIN library, which doesn't include the powerSTEP01. Thanks in advance..

Posted on July 23, 2015 at 09:59Hi, i get start to test a L6470H discovery board and got some problems:1.i try to connect board and pc with usb cable but it shows unknow device in windows device manager in win7-64bit but works fine in win xp 32bit.(i tried install DFU driver in DFUse software and SPINFamily Evaluation Tool software but still not work)2.i start board firmware (place boot jumper) but the ready and led error light the motor not work, i used ulink to upload firmware hex file which provide on st website and get same result.3.i try to upload source code from dSPIN Discovery Kit the LED works fine but the motor still not work. i checked power supply, source code work route and button response,everything but motor is ok.(sometimes the software will struck at line 335 at main.c which for checkflag signal)

Posted on September 06, 2015 at 05:49hi, i bought a 6470h disc board and found a problem that spi communication always fail, whatever spi command send from mcu the driver always back 0xff. and i checked spi signal with oscilloscope, the only thing i can say is mcu is fine. So is my driver IC fail or something wrong make this situation? need some advise.

Posted on September 01, 2015 at 22:16HI, I am using an L6470 and have a situation where I must stop motion immediately if an obstruction (think someone's hand) crosses an IR beam. Motion must stop immediately and not via any commands since there can be no risk of a communication error. The data sheet implies that the STBY/RST input signal should not be used when the bridges are active (i assume this means when a motor is in motion). What is the best way to stop motion not using any communication? Posted on September 01, 2015 at 15:21Hello Experts,I am using a bipolar stepper motor and L9942 driver IC.I am unable to set the stall threshold time for my application. The stall position to be identified is the end position of the linear actuator.My application is to identify the stall, change direction of rotation and stop rotation after n number of step pulses.I am able to arrive at a certain threshold value above which, the ST pin is set to 'logic high' immediately, even before the motor starting to spin (even if there is no stall condition)- so as per the logic the direction is changed and the motor rotates in the opposite direction, but the stall bit is not reset.Below the same threshold value, the ST pin always remains low- even after stall conditions the ST pin remains low.I am not able to arrive at that threshold value at which the driver detects proper stall condition.

The different modes that it can chop the current are Full mode, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8.  When 1/4, 1/8 modes are used with lower STEP Frequency or when Full and 1/2 modes are used with Higher STEP Frequency , there is no current chopping at the output for coils. What is the reason behind it?My aplication is to control position of the Stepper Motor with a stipulated time. The time is large and the steps to be taken is less in requirement. So I need to drive at very low frequency which I am not able to.Also is there any other way to control using the same L9942?Please help me out. #step-input-frequency #l9942

Posted on July 21, 2015 at 20:55I need some help on a drive controller that I designed that uses two L6482's. The problemis sometimes while running, one motor will shut off. Reading the status register shows an over current condition. The testing current is operating at 3 amps but will go to 5 amps RMS in the end motor application.I am sure it is a set up problem with the gate charge and rate. I am operating the system in !/4 stepand the maximum motor shaft speed is 7 rev/second. 800 steps for one revolution. The over current condition is while at 3 rev/second.The output FET's are ST's STP40NF10L with a typical Qg = 46nC, max = 64nC.  Setup is as follows:System voltage is 72 volts from a switching power supply.GATE DRIVING:IGATE = 32mATCC = 1750nSTDT

Posted on August 01, 2015 at 02:59Hello all, I have a L6470 based board powering a 1.2A/ 12V Soyo SY57ST56-1206A motor, and at low speeds it has the expected torque, but it falls off drastically above 300 pps, and by 600 pps it doesn't move at all under no load (I need torque to 1000 pps, the Soyo datasheet shows I should be able to get about 80% at that point)... Perhaps this has something to do with the BEMF slopes but I can't find any information on how I should set them?  Power supply is 4A 12V, KVAL's are set to 0xFF, Voltage compensation off, Full step threshold is at 1000pps right now #l6470

Posted on July 30, 2015 at 18:53I have had partial success in using the L6470 eval board.  However, I found that when I issue a GoTo (ABS_POS) command, it doesn't execute right away.  Interestingly enough, it starts executing after I send a ''disable'' command!  (A subsequent ''disable'' command it then necessary to cut power to the motor.)Any idea what might be going on?  Am I missing a step in this process?

During micro-stepping at less than 700Hz of STEP frequency input to the driver, there is no current chopping at the output coils. At frequencies greater than 700Hz there is output for coils. The same is the case for other modes as follows:1/4 mode: no currrent chopping at STEP frequency input less than 400Hz1/2 mode: no currrent chopping at STEP frequency input less than 200Hz Please help me understand the reason.  #step-input-frequency

Posted on July 18, 2015 at 05:04What is the filter cap required for driving a stepper motor at 5 amps RMS? The schematic from ST shows 220uF 100V but no ESR data. I placed a United Chemi-Con 390uF 100V with an ESR of 28m ohms and a ripple current of 2.6 amps. I now trip the short circuit detect. Any rule of thumb? #l6482-filter-cap

Posted on June 22, 2015 at 16:05I've been encountering a strange problem.  I can use the L6474 to move a stepper motor pretty fast in the forward direction.  When I flip the direction bit though, I find that I can't make it move anywhere near as fast in the reverse direction.  Any idea what might be causing this?

Posted on June 30, 2015 at 15:58Running a bidirectional stepper at 30V with L6482 and getting actual stalls in 16-microstep mode -- under load the motor literally stops and hums, but nothing is reported back to software. It's like the driver has not detected it. We have been getting (apparently spurious) OC and UV errors with various settings, but we seem blind to this actual stall. How can we sense this to troubleshoot or at least halt and recover? #l6482-stall-detection-stop

Posted on June 14, 2015 at 20:55Hello I am new to dSpin, but straight to the question.I have a L6470h setup on a protoboard using schematics found in the usermanual.But I see that the chip gets very hot even though it is in HiZ state. I measured the currency that my setup draws so I read ~26mA at HiZ, I have tried to different supply voltages 12V and 24V with both I get the same Iquiescence (but theres a difference in power consumption 0.31W and 0.62W). So as I believe the bridges are completely turned off so does almost all power go to heat? Are those current consumption values are adequate? P.S. I get these values without messing with any configurations straight after power up

Posted on June 30, 2015 at 16:04The manual describes the function of TBOOST well, but none of the examples of configurations that I have seen show the parameter set to anything besides 0x00, or really when it would be useful to implement it. Could someone comment on it? #tboost-turn-off-boost
