Posted on April 14, 2014 at 23:24I have a design with a L6206 driving two permanent magnet DC motors. With one motor, the chip is connected exactly like in the datasheet on pg. 18. It works fine. The other motor is almost identical except the IN line is held high and the EN/OCD is pulsed (through a 30kohm resistor - no cap) with PWM at 17kHz. This causes the L6206 to latch on permanently upon initial PWM pulse. The chip must be replaced. I don't see any place in the manual where I cannot pulse the EN pin - is this operation not allowed? Posted on April 11, 2014 at 20:13I am quite novice when it comes to stepper motors and am having some difficulties. I am evaluating the L6470 to replace an old step/dir motor drive. The motor used is an Applied Motion HT17-075 nema17. Form the specs and measurements I have the following data:phase current 0.85Aphase resistance 6.6 ohmsphase inductance 12mHmeasured Ke 0.0475 V/HzI am driving the motor with a 24V power supply and after going through the BEMF calculations I have a smooth and silent system but top speed is limited to 885 Steps/s . Everything more than that is really noisy and starts to slip.I am set at 128 micro-steps, have the Slew rate at fastest, using voltage compensation and have FS_SPD set to 0x3F. I tried varying the BEMF slopes, and even tried with a 36V power supply but couldn't get it to go faster. I don't have precise numbers but I know that it's really faster with the old drive

Posted on March 19, 2014 at 17:24We are working with the STEVAL-IHM023V2 to drive a brushless DC motor of 24V. The set up is to be used in an academic environment and will be used as set up for students. As it is their task to make the control algorithm (from current set point to switching pattern based on Hall sensors) we did not buy the controller of ST. The tests we did so far were successful but it is not possible to keep one leg of the inverter open (in a stable way). The only way we found so far to keep both upper and lower switch open was to keep both connection points floating (which cannot be the right option). Is there anyone who has tried to do the same and knows a solution? #steval-ihm023v2

Posted on March 28, 2014 at 11:35Hi I am running the Motor Control library 3.4.1 on the STM32F107xC. It keeps crashing into the 'Hardware Fault' exception. I have made the necessary adjustments to the IAR project build, and had to adjust some defines in the library to extend the build configuration past the STM32F10X_HD. Is there some basal reason that the library is not documented to run on the F107 device? Or, what could be throwing the hardware exception? Thanks Luke #cl-device-motor-control-library

Posted on March 11, 2014 at 06:45Hi We are using uC/OS II RTOS.  How do I modify the MC Application project to call the relevant BSP_IntVectSet() (handler setup)? Where is the best place to do this? (I am taking care not to double-up any application IRQs with the MC IRQs which I am treating as reserved. I presume the MC library uses IRQ's but I can't seem to find a central location where they're all nicely marshalled.) Is this the only setup I need to perform, apart from tasking the 3 MC tasks? Posted on March 24, 2014 at 02:53Hi The MC Toolbox wizard (and presumeably the MC library itself) seems to support only the use of p-n junction temperature feedback devices (25mV/degC), with support to alter coefficients. In our application we are using an NTC thermistor.  Any plans to support these additional devices, please?  Simple parametric would be required to specify the temperature transfer function to the library. Posted on February 27, 2014 at 13:12I mad some tests with L6470H in microstepping mode and it seems that microstep positioning is not possible with this device. In my test a microcontroller will send a hard stop command to the motorcontroller when an external signal is detected. The controller works in 32 microstep mode, the holding current has the same value as the run current. The motorcontroller is performing a run command and wait for the hardstop command. I monitor the motor current as well as the external signal on th scope (see attached screenshots). After hardstop was received by the controller it can be seen on the scope that the motor currents are changing AFTER the hardstop and the motor keep on turning for about 10ms. #l6470

Posted on March 18, 2014 at 13:33Hi,I am making SMPS as in title based on VIPER17HN. My concern is if the voltage on both sides of optocoupler should be equal. On diode side i have nice stable 3V, while on second side (the one by FBpin) there is 0,5V with noise. Output is in range of 3.2 to 3,36 depending on load with max 0.8A with 3.2V output. I want it to be more stable so i think mby the singals on opto sides are bad.  #isolated #flyback #viper

It is written: ''When the LSPD_OPT bit is set high, the low speed optimization feature is enabled and the MIN_SPEED value indicates the speed threshold below which the compensation works. We need to extend the movement Interface of the IC of +-2^21, to do long movements but have smoother movement in microstep mode.Therefore our planned algorithm is like following:Setup is Microstepmode128.If the movement exceeds 2^21 -> Switch to lower microstep mode (e.g. 1/64). We are driving 4    STGP20H60DF using two L6390 in two half bridge setups, for a specialty single phase motor (not a standard motor, I can't talk about it, but inrush is not an issue). 230V input, very standard virtually app note circuit with 0.025 ohm sense resistor, common to both half bridges.  Gate resistors in the 47 to 100 ohm area for turn on, 22 ohm turn-off.    About 10A rms, similar to starting currents in prior designs to drive  PSC type   single phase motors. Posted on February 26, 2014 at 19:53I have tried to download STSW_PCC009V2FW five times. Each time I press the download button, the error message URL not found shows up. The file STSW-PCC009V2 can be downloaded, which includes the IBUUI rapid test hex file. I can not connect the SETVAL PCC009V2 board to the spin demo software on Windows XP SP3. The STLINKV2 Jtag programmer can program the IBUUI firmware and the HID drivers show up when the SETVAL board is connected. I don't know if the IBUUI firmware is the correct file for the SETVAL v2 board or the V2FW file (which can not be downloaded) Any help will be appreciated. Posted on January 26, 2014 at 17:12I want to use the L6206 to drive 4 solenoids (one end of the solenoid each solenoid will be grounded) of 2.5amps each. Can this be done without damaging the IC. ? Also each of the bridges two halfs will not be drived simultaneously. Means the 2 solenoids on 1st bridge will be used only alternatively and never simultaneously. Can this be done?In a case if both bridges are simultaneously turned on the data sheets says it will have Vs on its output pins, I had a question if this condition though it would not ever occur would be bad for the circuit reliability.Thanks

I can't get any connection via the ''dSPIN Evaluation Tool'' to configure the L6470.I reflashed the firmware of the STEVAL-PCC009V2 several times as descibed in UM1612, but it still does not connect as ''STM32 based IBU UI Tool'' (see UM0935 page 15).Can anybody help me to find a solution for this problem.Sincerely,Michael #steval-pcc009v2 #eval6470h #l6470

Whitout the stepper the output of L298 are: 0V 12V 0V 12V. It's ok! But with the motor the output of L298 are: 6V 6V 6V 6V. Posted on February 12, 2014 at 00:59Hi,Is there an online version of the BEMF compensation tool?  I have a couple of boards from Sprakfun that are based on the L6470 but I'm having issues getting the performance out of the stepper motors that I thought I would be able to get.   Maybe I'm a bit dense but looking at the BEMF formulas I'm getting numbers that are ridiculously high so I must be messing something up somewhere. If there isn't an online version of the tool could someone possibly walk through an example of the calculations?  That way I could see where I'm going wrong and be able to apply the same calculations to other motors that I have as well.  Thanks #l6470

Posted on January 23, 2014 at 10:12I use L293 as an buffer and level shifter from 5VDC to 24VDC on two of our boards and it works perfectly except for one thing: shorting any of the outputs to GND kills the chip! Could you suggest me a solution to this problem?  If there is a device with similar function and shortcut protection embedded in chip, it can also be a solution to the problem.I tried to implement a circuit suggested in ST's application note http://www.st.com/st-web-ui/static/active/cn/resource/technical/document/application_note/CD00003776.pdfwithout success. L293's outputs and GND are connected to board's connector. When I make shortcut between one of the outputs and GND pin on connector, shortcut protection works ok. However, when I connect leads (2m long lead for output signal and 2m long lead for GND) and make shortcut at the end of leads, I kill L293. Regards,
