Posted on January 15, 2014 at 11:41Hello.I've set up the a project with the MC lib from ST, but I run into issues with the hall sensors (I suspect). When I try to start the motor via the MC workbench, the motor makes a small hitch and then stops. The workbench reports a speed feedback fault.Below are some scope shots which show on CH1 the voltage applied to ''phase A''. CH2-4 show the hall sensors 1 to 3.The images show that the motor control starts operating but stops after the first few edges from the hall sensors. I already tried increasing the ''Input capture filter duration'' and the caps for the hall sensor signals but no luck yet.Does someone of the experts have an idea what might be wrong in my setup?(BTW. I also tried the sensorless configuration, there the motor runs for a few seconds but then stops with start-up failure, I'm not sure if this is related?)cheers,bernhard

Posted on December 15, 2013 at 19:47Hello,I wanted to operate a solenoid of 12V 2.5A rating. I would like to know what kind of Motor Driver IC would be suitable for it (controlling through pwm). I am confused about RMS Current and Peak Current rating of the ICs.Also what if I select an IC who has ampere rating higher than the solenoid. will it damage the solenoid.thanks

Posted on January 08, 2014 at 09:55Hi.I ordered the steval-ihm022v1 board. As I was familiarizing myself with the board I flashed the provided fw project (with small adaptions) and the lcd project onto the uC and it worked quite fine. But after about an hour the display stopped showing anything. It's just blank.I tried flashing various combinations of lcd and fw projects but the display stays blank.Is it possible to get the original flash image to verify that the problem is not HW related?Is maybe a lcd test fw available to verify the display?br,bernhard

Or maybe there is some other guides which would include some more practical info on designing BEMF current sensing for FOC motor control. Controlled motor will be 12V 2-4 A, PWM frequency will be more than 20KHz, will see what STM32F103 will be capable of. Thank you in advance, Laurynas. #current-sensing-filter #an4076

Posted on December 17, 2013 at 18:01Hi, using the L6480 motor driver, having a problem with noise, probably due to the starting pulses of the sine wave. Its at 1/128step mode. Attached is a picture of the problem. Anyone know what settings need to be changed. #l6480-sine-wave-noise

Posted on December 20, 2013 at 11:39Hi,Are the M05 to M07 series of VIPower IC suitable for PWM control of resistive and inductive loads? The app note from M03 (AN1596) specified, ''In fact a standard number of cycles of a HSD is over 500,000 and the switching performance remains constant during lifetime.'' which implys a life of 83 minutes at 100Hz PWM.Thanks for any help,John. #vipower-pwm-hsd

L6470 is biplar type dirver, so I unconnected com line of unipolar motor. motor spec is below:  MAKER: sanyo denki  type : 103H5210-0480  1.2A/1.8DEGREE/3.3OHM. because unconnected com line, resistor is 6.6Ohm. I apply DC24V in the motor. The problem  is that motor is not reached 1500PPS.  under 1000PPS, motor is well opeared. Is it problem thar unipolar motor is used not bipolar? I changed all variable factor(acc,dec,kval, etc...), but it reached 1500PPS. what is wrong? #d

Posted on August 28, 2013 at 20:21We are using the L6470 in a new design. We have found that when we move to a position then reverse direction we find that the new position comes up short by 2 or 3 steps. After this initail error all future moves in the same direction are correct. If the direction is reversed again we lose the 2 or 3 steps again on the first move. We have an encoder mounted on the stepper shaft which confirms this action. Also we have placed a dial indicator on the belt and confirmed that we are indeed missing these 2 or 3 steps. ST engineers pleas reply as we are out of ideas on how to fix this issue.

Posted on November 21, 2013 at 18:17Also with the EVAL6480H, I have 2 boards in an SPI chain. After configuration, I can only make the first selected board work. To make the other motor work, I need to shut the power off, start over, and select the other motor first. Don't know why this happens, I want to control both motors.    #eval6480h #motor-control

Posted on October 15, 2013 at 13:48Hy, i must build a new board for control Stepper Motor. The pwm control logic and all, is manage with new cortex STM like STM32F100RBT6B. I want an unique 3V3 logic supply for all, is possible drive and receive all the logic signal control of the L6208 or similar  stepper drive controller:  Clock, Reset, Half/Full, Cw ecc..  with 3V3 max high level signal ??  Naturally the Motor have separated 40 Volt high power line voltage.Thank you Best regards

I am currently trying to develop a Brushless motor controller that allows me to control the torque and speed of the motor. The motor is very small, has 3 phases, 3 hall sensors and weights 7 grams. The model is a Faulhaber 1509 006B. I have an ST DMOS driver chip, model L6235 in DIP so I can do some testing on a bread board before designing a PCB. This chip seems a very good solution for my problem, since it has power drivers, hall sensor and commutation logic integrated, however I'm finding hard to understand if it allows torque control (for speed control is clear that is possible according to the datasheet and application note AN1625). I intend to interface it with a microcontroller and have a I2C communication, where I send speed and torque commands and receive the respective values.

My question is about the L4891 PFC controller, Is there any calculator for extracting the inductor value, and all other values? Its going to be a very complex tast to do it using the formulas. I have seen many other controllers comes with these powerful tools. And I don't know why ST don't have it. Also, Is it possible to replace the MOSFET power switch with IGBT? Regards

Posted on October 08, 2013 at 11:09Hi. Using L6470 I need to move to absolute position with the possibility to change speed during motion. I need the Soft Stop (or something similar) when reaching the target. Speed change during motion is possible using Run command but not using Move command (Move has the deceleration I need when reaching the target). I already tried 2 solutions but I don't like them both: 1) Using Run and checking continuously if the motor is approaching the target position to issue a Soft Stop at the appropriate time. This is tricky because speed changes often and the ''stop time'' varies accordingly. 2) Using Run + Hard Stop when reaching target pos: this is a mechanical stress to avoid. But in this case High side MOSFET's (HVGA1 & HVGB1) does not turn ON. There is no gate supply on this FET's. All other FET's are working. Kindly help me with the issue #l6480

Posted on October 04, 2013 at 15:16Hi. I played with the eval board+steval to set my step motor parameters. It works flawlessly. Now I'm writing Arduino code to get the same control. Motor parameters have been copied by the Register Map. SPI routines are ok and verified. Strange thing with Arduino: I can move the motor ''almost the same'' as with the steval, read/write registers (they are the same as using Steval and the associated software) but the motor runs SLOWER. Always around 80% than the set speed value. With Steval, OK. With Arduino, a little whistling noise and 80% the speed... The speed register (as all other registers) is the same. Using Steval the motor stalls running around 2500step/s, using the same controls but with Arduino it stalls at 900step/s. It is set for 1/128 microsteps, Ke has been determined sperimentally. Posted on April 24, 2013 at 15:21Hi,I'm exploring the EVAL6470H with my stepper motor.according to the motor electrical parameters, the INT_SPEED should be around 2000 steps/s. The problem is that the L6470 has a maximal limitation of 976 steps/s for this parameter.So if I want my application to work at 6000 steps/s, I cannot get a steady current while accelerating to that point (I can, though, ''trick'' the parameters so I would get the wanted current at 6000 steps/s).Why do you limit the INT_SPEED parameter so low, and do you have a workaround solution for me, or is it impossible to use this motion control with my motor?Thank you. #l6470

Posted on September 12, 2013 at 14:43Hello,I don't know if this was the subforum for this chip, but here's my problem:In the datasheet of the L6360 you show that the microcontroller and the L6360 are connected through UART (USART).But how do you configure, read or write through the UART?There are no commands nor any hints given.Also the IO-spec states that the IO-Link chips can be programmed (IODD, user program), but there are no pins for that?I hope to hear from you soon. #l6360-io-link #l6360-io-link
