STM32 MCUs Motor control

Posted on June 12, 2017 at 04:29The motor profiler starts profiling starts to measure the motor parameters like R,L ,Kb and other mechanical parameters but every time i use the values are different from physical measurements  which gives me a confusion when to rely on Motor profiler and when not ?I want to understand the Algorithm so that i can know where to use values measured by profiler and when to mesure using test setup.#stm32-foc-pmsm-sdkv3.0 #inductance #motor-profiler

Posted on October 04, 2017 at 23:10Hi I have a problem with starting the motor with motor profiler.With motor profiler - 1pole pair, 6Amp Max speed 5000. also with other variation of these parameters motor profiler never starts the motor.I only hear a click and motor moves 1-2 degrees and sometimes I hear the stator magnetics frequency, profiler reads 1000-3000 rpms, but the rotor does not move.After the manual movement , motor generates 18AC Volt, 1.5Amp, nice sinus.Motor profiler automatically flashed default hex program for NUCLEO-F303RE with X-NUCLEO-IHM08M1 expansion board.Motor is axial flux combined with linear motor construction, with two same stators on opposite sides.Schematics of windings is attached.It is necessary to compile and flash custom WB generated project? or motor profiler has a correct firmware special for universal profiling?This motor has max frequency about 100Hz. Posted on April 28, 2018 at 01:45I downloaded the latest release X-CUBE-MCSDK ver. 5.03 . Release Notes show NUCLEO-F446RE board in the list of the supported control boards in this release but Motor Profiler does not show this board.  What is the reason  for discrepancy? Is this board coming up soon with a new release? Or is the downloadable release on STM site not the latest?#x-cube-mcsdk #nucleo-f446re

Posted on May 01, 2018 at 22:23Hello,I am trying to use the MCSDK to control a 250W BLDC motor. Here the the specification.Electrical 36V nom, 7 amps max, 10 pole pairs.Mechanical ~ 8 N.m, and no more than 300 RPM.I am using the F302R8 and IHM08M1 in FOC and 3SH mode.I have managed to get the motor profiler working with a high speed BLDC (more than 3000 rpm). but I am having issues with profiling the one mentioned above. It does spin, but the rotation is not smooth at all and it couldn't exceed 80 rpm. The profiling fails if it doesn't reaches the maximum speed. I managed to get the rpm reach 250rpm but only with a target speed of 1500 rpm.Is the MCSDK not designed for slow speed? Is there something else I am supposed to do here?Thanks in advance for your help,Abdul

Posted on May 15, 2018 at 03:11The 5.0 version use commands like 'bool MC_StartMotor1(void);' instead of the old 4.3 'bool MCI_StartMotor(CMCI this);' This api change is documented in AN5143 rev 2.A google search on MC_StartMotor1 gives one hit - in that application note.Where can I find example code that use this new api?Or any documentation on how to use it?And I wonder why stuff like the potentiometer example still is using the old api.Are anyone programmatically (not using motor profiler) driving motors with 5.0?Thanks for any help.

I have #nucleo-F302R8 and #X-nucleo-IHM08M1 boards.I selected these two in Profiler, Connected My motor and Hall devices, Entered 4 Pole pairs and max speed as 4000RPM. Max current as 20A (Motor rated for 30A). Connected Power suppy of 12V/40A . Connected and started Profiling.Motor moved approx a revolution and stopped. And the after a few minutes and fails. Shows Resistance, Inductance, Supply voltage and current.What is I am missing ??RegardsVimal Amin

Posted on June 03, 2018 at 09:43I am trying to use the STEVAL-ESC001V1 with the motor profiling tool but I can't get the motor profiler to connect to the controller. I am using a ST-LINK/V2 with the STSW-LINK009 driver on Win7. I am able to connect to the controller using the STM32 ST-LINK Utility so I think the wiring is correct and I am missing something on the motor profiler side of things. Any ideas on what the issue might be? I am getting 'Connection Error! Please, check the connection between the board and PC.'

I have a STEVAL-SPIN3202 programmed and configured for FOC, and a small motor which has been profiled by the profiler and an ESC001V1. Code is auto generated by MCWB and compiled using Eclipse (I have to change the min_stack_size to 0x300 because MCWB gets it wrong).The motor runs fine in MCWB using the ESC001V1.Using the STEVAL-SPIN3202 the board connects OK but when I start the motor there is a click followed by a message "Communication is closed, the board doesn't response correctly". This (pidgin English) message is completely useless and provides not the slightest clue as to the nature of the fault.I am at a standstill with my development after trying many combinations of settings and wasting a lot of time. I do want to use the 3202 in a product I am designing but if I can't get it to turn a motor I will abandon it.There are other problems. The documentation says for FOC to have J12 on, J11 off, and JP8 on 2-3. The schematic says J12 off and J11 on.

Hello,I have tried to use Motor Profiler with ESC001v1 and drone rc outrunner motor: 14n12p (7 pole pairs), 6s, 600kvConnection via St-link and Uart was succesfull, firmware uploaded to the board ESC001v1, but motor profiling failed.Where could be a problem? Hello, I would like to know if there's a way to use the motor profiler with a different set of board then the predefine one. I already have the NUCLEO-F302R8 and now i want to use it with a STEVAL-IPM07F. The MotorWorkbench tools allows me to use both board but not the motorprofiler. Is there a way to tweak the motorprofiler to support other boards set?Thanks, Pascal

In all fan motors that we like to profile the three windings are delta connected.The motor profiler runs but states at the end that the resistances and inductivities are out of the range of supported values. Is there a possibility to switch the behavior of the motor profiler to profile delta connected motors? And furthermore are the software libraries that drive the motor able to drive delta connected motors?

For our project we want to know the motor parameters of a custom 1.4KW (2HP)Motor. Photo attached.we are using Motor profiler on STM3240G-Eval with STEVAL-IHM028V2.The problem is The profiler is failing in its initials stages and not able to identify Rs and Ls.Its Shows 0 RPM and after some time shows a massage "The measurement is talking two much time"We have taken care to properly configure boards in motor Control Mode. your suggestions Please... 

Dear Ladies and Gentleman, as a research project to find a smart and easy way to characterize different brush-less DC-motors, we are working with your NucleoF302R8 and IHM07/08 circuits.To begin with, we started using the "ST Motor Profiler" to profile different motors.In doing so, we encounter several problems: 1.) Motor does not rotate. Hardware: NucleoF302R8 / IHM08; Motor BO4560/12 ( peak current 50A)Using this setup we manage to get electrical parameters only. As soon as the Profiler tries to spin the motor, the motor does not turn at all. All that happens is a "Klick" every 2-3s. On the oscilloscope one can see, that the IHM08 gives just a very short pulse on the motor, which is not enough to get it spinning. Hi,I have a stm32f769i-eval board and steval028v2. I look the UM2035 and did some modification on stm32f769i. After than i connected the boards each other and pc.I start the motor profiler but didnt work. I get a error. I connect on STlink port to pc usb port. My st link driver updated. I bought a F401RE and an IHM07M1 to work on the subject BLDC a couple of weeks ago but, I could not profile the motor. My motor is T-Motor U8 170kw. It has 36 coils and 42 poles. I connected my boards successfully but, when I clicked "Start Profile" it gives me the error message "The measurement is taking too time" and after clicking "continue anyway" the motor doesn't run.I attached my setup, motor and the warning message. I would be really happy if someone could help me.Thanks!

Hola, anyone using STEVAL-IPM15B + NUCLEO-F303RE having the same problem?Im trying to develop FOC control for big brushless motors.I purchased the NUCLEO-F303RE + STEVAL-IPM15B to design FOC motor drivers.My motor is a brushless 21 pp , 200Vdcbus big motor.My issue is when i try to use the motor profiler sofware tool i get a lot of communication errors like:"Warning! the fimware embedded on control board is correct, but the control board communication is still missing"​​​​i also own a NUCLEO-F392R8 + X-NUCLEO-IHM07M1 and i dont have any problem with any of the sofware tools.My question is: is there any documentation or user guide (more complete than the one existing in the st webpage which doesnt tell you much abouthow to setup)?have a nice day and thanks in advanceWhen i unplugg the STEVAL-IPM15B the communications seem to work again

I am trying to change the motor rotation periodicly (eg. after 3 period the direction of the rotation should change IMMIDIATELY) but with the help of the GUI it changes very slow... I would like to modify the code, I just do not know, which code should I download?Can you please send me the basic source code for STM32G431CB , motor rotation?Thank you in advance,N.

I have a Nucleo - F302R8 board with X-Nucleo - IHM07M1 BLDC motor driver. I'm trying to drive my bldc motor which is Emax rs 1106 - 6000kv using motor profiler software.Using the motor profiler software with suitable settings (pole pair = 6 , Max Speed = 16000, Max current = 1.7 , Vbus = 8V) the motor isn't able to rotate. I've used other bldc motors like BR2804-1700KV and DYS 1100KV and they worked fine. Dear ST team,I have a Nucleo - F302R8 board with X-Nucleo - IHM07M1 BLDC motor driver. DearI am looking to test Nucleo-F401 with Motor driver IHM07-M1 but when stating motor profiler, this nucleo board does not appears in the list of supported board. When reading release not of Motor profiler, F401 should be in the supported board.Please helpThanks

I have set the jumper pins with respect to the user manual.The motor only runs after I profile it at the motor profiler, when I run the program into the board using the STM32CubeIDE, the motor stops running again. And when i want to profile it again it says that a firmware upgrade is needed for the board to connect to the profiler.
