STM32 MCUs Motor control

Posted on February 18, 2016 at 20:17I'm using the ST Motor Control Workbench with STEVAL-IFN003V1 and my bus voltage is reading above the threshold but the Under Voltage fault light is constantly on even if I disable the low voltage checking in the settings. What could the issue be? Also, is there any documentation available to explain what these faults mean exactly and how to use the application? Thanks #steval-ifn003v1

Posted on March 31, 2016 at 22:03Hi, I am not having much luck with the Nucleo-IHM001 eval kit(s), for now going to put them down, very dissapointing. I have a STM3240G eval board that appears to be supported by the ST motor control workbench. Can anyone recommend a IHM-XXX power stage/driver that is 'known' to work with STM3240G eval board? And is hopefully 'known' to be supported by the ST motor control workbench? Thanks. #nucleo-ihm001-stm3240g

Posted on April 21, 2016 at 01:25Hi ,Just a bit of background. We do motion control products and require smooth low speed to high speed motion. We also need high torque and all this lends itself to BLDC and PMSM motors. From the research Ive done it seems that FOC control may be the best bet. However after getting the dev board mentioned above with the nucleo -F302r8 and teh bull running 7 pole motor and the ST MC workbench - the low speed control is really  quite useless - the motor stalls below 1500 RPM - even with simple trapezoidal control I can easily go down to 500 RPM with most high speed motors. I have tried tuning the PID loop from default values - I get some improvement on low speed oscillations but it still stalls at quite  high speeds. I will try other motors in the meantime can anyone shed some light on how to get really smooth and really slow motor movement without using a stepper and their practical experience w

Posted on May 12, 2016 at 13:53Hello,I am trying to control In-wheel motor for electric scooter. Here is what I have done so far....1. In-Wheel motor : 300W ,   Hall sensor  (Surface Mounted PMSM)2. 3 Shunt phase current sensing3. MC workbench PMSM FOC Lib v4.24. STM32F407VE,  8Mhz external5. With these, I setup things in workbench. And programmed into the MCU.6. Didn't do Motor Profile. 7. In-wheel motor run finally without load.But the problem is..   without load, it can run.But with load, like when put this wheel on the ground, it just stop.so when I try to stall it by my hand, current goes up a little bit and I can feel a bit more torque. But it just stop right away. The current that I measured using Multimeter is about 0.15 A.When I try to stall it..  it is about 0.22A 

Posted on May 14, 2016 at 03:18Hello I try to use In-Wheel motor. 300W with Hall sensor.I used workbench and finally succeeded to run Motor Profiler .And got motor parameters, PID gains.After this, applied these parameters and tried to run the motor.But because of this error, it doesn't run.  ''Start-up Failure''.I referenced some troubleshoot.  and tried several things.Like decreasing G2 gain in observer.  and increasing variance threshold in Observer+PLL.  But still didn't work. I expected higher current like 1A when  starting up. But my current metershows just 0.2A.   Current meter just show overall current not just phase current though. Now what can I try?    (Thanks Gigi for your big help)

Posted on May 17, 2016 at 11:56Hello,What I have done so far is ...0. In controlling of 300W 24V In-Wheel motor ... (with STM32F407VE)1. Motor parameters were taken through Motor Profiler2. Hall sensor is set to main sensor.  And Observer+PLL is aux sensor 3. Can control speed, torque through Workbench and API in program.Problem is ...A. This is electric scooter. When start up, seems like low torque.   It try to turn. But fail.  Without load, it is ok.    How can I handle it in the program?  Starting up with heavy load.B. When MCI_StartMotor( ) execute, motor suddenly tug before turning.   It is like big current is applied suddenly.    How can I start up smoothly in the program ?C. in number 2. if Observer+PLL is main sensor, everytime start-up failure.

Posted on July 31, 2016 at 20:13Hi,I have a the P-NUCLEO-IHM001 kit, and having issues completing the motor profile step.Setup:1. keil IDE loading firmware complete, board setup in FOC, 3 shunt jumpers.2. ST workbench profile using example project ''P-Nucleo-IMH001-MP-LowInductanceMotor-7-PolesPairs''3. generation location in SystemDriveParams folder4. connectivity successful, after clicking ''start'' the motor starts to tick and move a little, goes through that part fine3. sometimes it will spin up sometimes it won't, and that is the step where the over current fault occurs.I've tried adjusting the ''Nominal Current'' in motor parameters, no change. Power supply is steady and can produce up to 3A, Looking for assistance or pointers in where the current limit is set or resolution.  Much appreciated thank you #foc-

Posted on September 08, 2016 at 23:19Hi, I've been working with MC workbench and want to use a smaller package STM32F303.  However, the project configuration for analog inputs only offers pins that are not available on the LQFP48 ''C'' package.  I have no wish to use the 64 or 100 pin package for a small simple application. I have an application where I am running a light inertia motor (6 pole-pair) at a constant speed of nominally 1800 rpm. In this application I need finer control than is provided by the speed measurement resolution. I am already using SPEED_UNIT _001Hz.Is there any means to modify the code so that I can improve the resolution by a factor of 4 or 5? I am going through the Motor Control files and trying to figure out where I might make the necessary modifications.

I have been using the STEVAL-IDP005V1 sensor to capture data from a motor, but the sensor has stopped working.I'm not able to retrieve it. I suspect it was a short circuit during one of the tests. Is there any way to know if the sensor still works? any hardware check that can be done?I have verified that the sensor has voltage and if it reaches it correctlyI have also tried to reload the binary in different ways, but the sensor is not responding.Thanks for your help.

Hi.I'm trying to spin my motor using ST Motor Control WB and STM32CubeIDE. In my code I programmed motor speed 1500rpm, but instead of that my motor started to spin with 9000rpm speed. When I set 6500 or 9000rpm speed it spins with 1800rpm. If I try to set it using Motor Control WB or Motor Pilot is spins correctly. Can someone help me with my code in IDE?

Hello. I've purchased 10pcs of the B-G431-ESC1 boards in hope I can quickly set them to work for my application (a robotic platform). Unfortunately, the software available on the ST site doesn't work with the board (not for me, anyway). First it advises to upgrade the firmware to the v1.4 (from v1.3). After profiling the motor (successfully) I switch to the Motor Control Workbench, where I set the Hall sensors use ON and do nothing more - just generate the code. then It suggests to open the STMCubeMX for some reason, where I can see or change the pin assignments, but since I don't want to mess with the automatically generated code - I do nothing but "generate the code" again... I still can't compile it and download to the device... Then I have options to open the folder or open the project - I chouse "open the project", which brings the STMCubeIDE Louncher asking me of the "workspace" location and then (after confirming) it louncjhes the IDE itself. I wasn't sure if this was the correct forum for FOC code questions.I need to use the smallest speed resolution available in the ST FOC code. In the file mc_stm_types.h I set the following define: #define SPEED_UNIT _001HZMy understanding is I should be able to measure & set speed with a resolution of 0.01Hz doing this.I'm running a motor and the RPM displayed in the GUI is toggling between the two values 1996 and 2000. Also, using procedure MC_GetMecSpeedAverageMotor1() I record values of only 3328 and 3334. This is equivalent to 33.28Hz and 33.34Hz which is 0.06Hz resolution.Do I have something set wrong in the code? Is there any way to improve upon this?Thanks,Brian

Posted on March 06, 2017 at 04:44Hello,I use STSW-SPIN3201 to drive a PMSM motor for industrial fan. After I modified the motor parameters by MC Workbench and re-builded the project. The motor can be driven. Now, I have one questions.The question is when I replace the STSW-SPIN3201's shunt resistors from 10 mOhms to 2 mOhms, and modified the shunts value in the MC Workbench, then re-generate the head file. The motor can't be driven. The fault status on the MC Workbench is ''Speed feedback''. How can I fixed this issue?

Posted on May 06, 2017 at 17:51Hello!I am working on a motor control board and wanted to use the motor control workbench.Right now I am faced with 2 configuration problems and I am curios if anyone the reason for them and if there might be an update to the workbench:1) when I have configured Embedded HW OCP for the phase V only comp4/5 can be used. My board is using comp1. Funny thing is that I can edit the header file and it seems to be working but it is time consuming and annoying. So why isn't comp1 selectable?2) the HW OCP seems to consider that the inputs come directly from the shunt resistors ( i have a 3 shunt resistor topology) and not from the external opamp that is used also for the current measurement. In my case the input is that from the opamp so I can't use the workbench for the OCP:(Even without the OCP I got a Maxon 272763 started. Posted on May 26, 2017 at 16:09Working with STEVAL-SPIN3201. The board seems to randomly disconnect. It is not related to running a motor, just connected to motor control workbench. SPIN32F0 drive stays enumerated under windows. Anybody seen this?

Posted on July 14, 2017 at 15:32I am using the Motor Control Library, to control a BLDC motor with Hall sensors. I would like to use the uart for my own purposes. If I enable uart, it dumps trash (since it tries to communicate with the MC workbench) if I disable it, even if I configure it normally, it do not work. What do you suggest?
