Posted on December 21, 2012 at 16:16Hi, I�m playing around with the L6470 which finally worked quite well. But now I�m experiencing the following issue: I want to continuously monitor the status register of the L6470. But when I send a �run� command to the device immediately after using the �GetParam� command to read out the status register the motor does not move. If I do it the other way around i. e. when I first send the �run� command and then the �GetParam� command the motor turns as intended but I receive zeros (&H0) for the status register high and low byte. Have done something wrong or is it actually the case that there has to be a pause between sending two commands via SPI? If so, how long is this interval? And just to clarify: that would also mean, that there is a maximum frequency for changing the motor speed (e.g. it is not possible to send a new speed value at e.g. 1 kHz as needed for a quick control loop)?

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 22:38Hello! My question is in follows:I got L6470 working, but not in a desirable way. Stepper motor vibrates in all speed range. It seems that phase current form distorted as shown in Fig. 15 (Section 7.3, p. 35 of datasheet), because motor pulses each time when electrical position corresponds the full step. Low Speed Optimization option really reduces this effect at low speed but it still remain in all range causing the vibration. Is it normal operation state or I just haven't adjust driver properly? What I have to do in this case? Hope, somebody will help me..

Posted on October 03, 2012 at 17:36In a L6470 the microcontroller sends a Move command in 128-microstepping type; then, after a zero is read in the busy flag (so the movement has finished), the absolute position is read but the value read is smallest than the value introduced as Move parameter. I have noticed that the STEP_LOSS_A and the STEP_LOSS_B flags are zero so is it possible that some microsteps had lost and that was the reason that both values were different?

I am using a LSM303 (accelerometer/magnetometer) for detection of pitch/roll/attitude angles which then go through a PID controller to set the pulse width of a PWM controller to set the speed of a brushless motor. The software side seems to work quite well and I am getting good data (over I2C) when I disconnect the motors (3.7V, 1A each). When I connect them, I get very noisy data on the lines. I initially thought that spikes from the motors are causing this and implemented schottky diodes across the MOSFETs as well as capacitors to adequately dampen the response (the spikes measured at the motor leads now come in at about 4.5V peak). I checked all lines and there is very little noise (0.1Vpp on the battery, <10mV on digital lines). All digital components have bypass capacitors and the line is regulated with a LDO re

This signals goes to logical gate on driver. If I want to work with 6 MOS instead of l6230, how can I have 6 signals (U_low, U_hig, V_low,....) thank you

Posted on September 21, 2012 at 12:29Hi everyone, I am working with STM3210B-MCKIT and 3.2-Motorlibrary. My problem is the motor (Shinano LA052-080E3NL1) has not enough power, it is very easy to stop it with a hand. The power stage has during motorstop a power consumption of ca. 0.5A (monitor in ST Motor Control Workbench shows ca. 10 Watt). I would expect increasing of current up to current limitation (in my case 3,5 A) if you try to stop it.  I have tried different configurations to control the motorspeed: encoder, hall-elements, sensorless, but without success, there always the same: motorpower is too low. What can I do to get more power? Thanks for help in advance.

I'm already working with a block commutation quite similar to that: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/STM32_BLDC_Control_with_HALL_Sensor (also mentioned in some other post here). It works well but to improve efficiency, I'm working on sinusoidal commutation now, that means, I want to change the PWM duty cycle of one PWM block sinusoidal. At the moment it's constant over the whole commutation step. Whats the best way to do that? I tried to start another timer which changes the PWM duty cycle (CCR val of PWM timer) e.g. 20 times corresponding to a sinus-half-wave with 20 sampling points. Posted on August 06, 2012 at 15:08I am changing FOC motor control library to use it with a motor which uses analog hall sensors. To get the rotor angle out of the 3 phases of the analog hall sensors I am first doing a clark transformation with them to get the 2 dimensional system alfa and beta. From alfa and beta I calculate the rotor position using the function ExecuteCORDIC from the library which in principle calculates the atan2 of alfa and beta. How my problem ist to check my calculations to be sure that they are compliant with the assumption of the library. Is there a possibilty with some MC-library function to output a stator field vector with certain angle and length ? With such a function I could check my calculations for annalog hall signal processing on for example to angles (0 and 120 degress) I was able to solve my problem. Posted on March 26, 2012 at 07:32There seems to be an error in the datasheet concerning FS_SPD. For starters the maximum value is h3FF and not hFF as stated. But if I am running in 128 microstep mode and the FS_SPD threshold is crossed it does not actually switch to full-step mode, it looks more like an in-between microstep mode. I have confirmed this on the scope, it's not the same as running the motor in full-step mode.  BTW, I have managed to run the NEMA34 at up to 3400RPM. #l6470 #l6470

Posted on July 17, 2012 at 08:03Hi,I am developing a product that is very similar to the buck-converter circuit presented in AN2544, using a viper12AS setup for 12V, 100mA output (using the 12V 200mA circuit as similar reference). This product is awaiting EMI approvals (EN55022 class B) to allow production, however our EMI scans have shown the conducted emissions to be borderline on the limits around the 150KHz to 1.5MHz region; this is despite careful layout of the PCB, input X-capacitor (upto 100nF), and input pi-filter. Detailed scans show that by far, the greatest contributor to conducted emissions here are those frequencies that are multiples of the viper12A's switching frequency.I've run scans to find improvements in changing capacitor and filter values, but these all offer very marginal changes, even at very light (ie 10mA) load. Changing the buck-converter's output inductor, however, from 1000uH to something lower

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 09:52I am designing a circuit with a L5973D switching regulator to provide 3.8v and am facing a peculiar problem. The circuit is as per the design reference in the datasheet and the feedback resistors are given to provide 3.8v output (10K and 4.7K). Initially, I get 3.8v. But while leaving the circuit connected, it starts inching up about 10mV every 10 minutes or so. Furthermore, powering down the circuit and then back up does not cause it to provide 3.8v again. Wondering what's going on....

I've been able to get my differential drive motors running and now I want to perform 2 tests to mimic real world scenarios. Please tell me if the following two scenarios would cause damage to the chip and possibly a way to protect against it:1) During motor operation an external ESTOP switch on the robot kills input power (8-45v terminal) to the board2) With the battery power removed from the EVAL boards, the stepper motors are back driven. I'm seeing a voltage appear at the 8-45V input of the board during back driving because the motor is acting as a generator. VDD of +5V may or may not be present. This is a common scenario since end users have a tendency to push the robot during transportation or an ESTOP from scenario 1.Thank you

I have configured all parameters of the system with the ST Motor Control Workbench and I am able to communicate with the system trough the panel Monitor of the Motor Control Workbench. I have connected the windings and hall sensors according the procedure described in chaptre ''5.2.3. Setting up the system when using hall-effect sensors'' of the User manual UM1052. When I press the button Start Motor on the MC Workbench then the motor makes a little hitch ( one to two revolution ) and the the system goes into the state Speed feedback fault. This state can be reset by pressing the button Fault Ack.  I experimented with different values for HALL_PHASE_SHIFT without any success. Does any
